Hope your scan goes well today emsbet - I know you said you usually manage to get early scans (time-wise) so hopefully it's all over and everything is ok. xx
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

It was at 11, just got back. Baby's still there and heart is beating away which is good news. I had a mini freak out because I'm now dating behind where I thought I would be going on the dates they gave me last time but the sonographer didn't seem concerned and she said that they aren't supposed to date them anyway they are only supposed to look for a heartbeat.
Going on the dates she gave me last time I should be 10+2 today (which is in line with my LMP) But she said today I was measuring "just under 10 weeks". This date does tie in with when I ov'd (CD18, so would be 9+6 going on ov date), so I'm going to try not to worry. Babies do grow at different rates I think so a few days isn't a problem. She said my bladder wasn't very full and there was a lot of gas :o in my tummy which was making it hard to see and she had to zoom in. Also she said at this stage it's hard to make out the exact "edges" of the baby to measure properly.

Sorry that was a load of waffle but it's calmed me down to write it down and think rationally :o

It's going to be a long 2 weeks but hopefully all will be ok.

    xx

Fingers crossed for you emsbet - I'm sure all will go well at your next scan too. I was confused and disappointed in a way when they moved my dates back too - hopefully it just means our babies take their time growing, and won't be so big in the end to give birth to. ;)

  • Ive never had a scan yet where they havent moved me back ! (and my boys were both 2 weeks late !)

It makes sense they shouldnt give you dates as most people wont have as many scans as you so who's to say that the dates wouldnt jump around for everyone IYSWIM.

Glad all is ok anyway :)

Thanks. I've just been reading that because they date by measuring the length crown to rump its difficult early on as the baby is more curled up and by the 12 week scan it should have stretched out more and therefore make the dates more accurate.

Anyway there's nothing I can do so I'm going to try my best not to worry.

    xx

  • Emsbet, try not to worry about the date changing. TBH I would say that your ov date is probably more accurate anyway meaning it would be right to say your just under ten weeks. I am expecting my dates to change by about three weeks when I go for the dating scan - according to my LMP I am about 8 weeks but according to my ov date I am only 5 weeks. The LMP thing is outdated and inaccurate.

KittenPie, I hope your don't show to early! And I know I wouldn't be able to keep it a secret for that long!

So far we have told my parents, brother and nans (I have no granddads), DH's mum, siblings and maternal grandparents. Going to visit DH's dad tomorrow to tell him but we are not telling his parents (DH's paternal grandparents) as it will spread round the entire family within a week and we are not even that close to them (won't make a special effort to tell DH's cousins, aunts and uncles, but we will with mine when I reach 12 weeks).

I am proud as I have successfully dodged the question of me being pregnant twice now, both from two close friends! One knows we have been trying and said that we should meet up for a drink if I can drink, I just said a drink sounds good (well it does, I just never said that I can't!). Another, after I told her I didn't feel great, asked me outright so I replied "why is it whenever I say I am ill people assume I am pregnant?" and then changed the subject! Mind you, these were both over text! I have a family party tonight and I know my cousin is going to ask (as she always does) when me and DH are going to have kids so am trying to prepare a cool, nonchalent (sp?) reply along the lines of "not sure yet, we will just have to wait and see". Will report back to let you know how I did (I am a hideous liar - I go bright red and everything!).

I'm not great and just avoiding the questions, most people aren't asking however my mother did state this week that she didn't think I was emotionally or physically ready to try again. Oops. I know she will be thrilled when we tell her and she is just looking out for me in her own way.

At six months last time I didn't look that pregnant and there were two, so hoping it will be similar this time. Although already looking quite pregnant - they say you show quicker with 2nd pregnancies. I am quite big so still think I can cover it. :D

  • Scans are meant to put your mind at rest, but often they just stress you out even more!

My mum said that when she had my sister and I (early to mid 70's) and my brother (mid 60's), there was none of this continuous scanning, and actually you worroied a whole lot less as ignorance was in a way bliss!

Not saying of course that scans aren't important, but scanning so early often just causes more worry as often baby can't be measured accurately, and dates do get put back.

Try not to stress Emsbet. As someone else said, dates being shifted about is so so common.
