It was quite amazing really - the heartbeat was only just detectable as a tiny white spot that sort of flickered, and that was when it was magnified. At first, she thought she was going to have to use the internal probe (her words), but then she spotted the hearbeat when she pressed harder in a certain area. I asked if I could have a picture as Moon couldn't be there, but she said they don't do them in the EPAC as some people in the waiting room will be going out with bad news, which was understandable, and to be honest, there wasn't an awful lot to see in a picture anyway. She said that they will obviously provide pictures at the 12 week and 20 week scans though.

Our EPU give out pictures for free. We have one from each of our scans but it just looks like a small blob then a bigger one :D it's amazing how much (s)he has grown in just two weeks though!

According to one of the baby sites, it says that the baby doubles in size just between weeks 6-7. At the moment my "blob" is measuring 5mm, but by week 7 it should measure a full cm! My Mum was amazed that something so tiny had a heartbeat!
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

It is amazing how quickly they grow. The sonographer told us our little one is now 2cm long and just two weeks ago (s)he was 0.5cm.

Just think in 7 months our babies will be something like 50cm long!

Glad that your scans went well Sexymouse and Emsbet :j

I'm still getting pale brown spotting on and off, and by yesterday I'd wound myself up so much about it that I went to a&e in the hopes that I'd maybe be able to see someone in the EPU. Didn't get to see anyone in EPU, but did see a lovely nurse who was so kind and understanding. She looked at my blood pressure, but basically said that as I was only 5+1 there really wouldn't be anything conclusive that they could say by doing a scan just yet. She just said to try to think positive but really I'd just have to wait and see. She has managed to get me a scan at the EPU for when I'll be 6.5 weeks though. Went for my first appointment with my own docs today, and he says basically the same, although he wants me to go get my blood tested. Annoyingly I can't go today (have already had to take time off this afternoon) as I have to have the test after 9 hours of not eating.

Trying to be positive and keep trying to tell myself that it's all fine and the bean is still growing. Have been feeling quite nauseous today, so hoping that's a good sign?

snowbean the fact that you are feeling nauseous is probably a good sign, as it shows that the hormones are increasing. Fingers crossed that everything is ok for you when you go at 6.5 weeks - on the plus side, by that stage, you will be able to see a bit more than I did I think. The sonographer today, said it's very common to have spotting in early pregnancy, so try not to worry too much - I know it's easier said than done, and that time seems to drag very slowly. Try to find things to keep yourself busy and distracted. Next week is Valentine's day, so maybe you could try to make a present? You may be further along than you think, or not as far along as you think (I thought I was 4 days further along). The heartbeat can only usually be detected on an ultrasound at 6 weeks apparently, so going in now, wouldn't show anything either way. Try to keep your chin up - we're all here for you if you need us. Try to get your blood test first thing in the morning, that way you won't have eaten overnight, and can have breakfast afterwards.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Argh, just typed a whole post and it disappeared!

Thanks guys for your kind words, it's nice to be able to talk to someone, seeing as can't really talk to anyone except OH, and I don't think he really knows what to say!

Yeah, that's what the doc suggested, to go for the bloods in the morning. Think will have to wait till Thursday when I'm on a later shift though, as I'm already having to make up the time for the docs this afternoon :( But I don't what to wait!
Which makes me also wonder what to do about the scan next week? It's in the morning, but will make me at least an hour late for work, probably more. If I tell them why I'm having all these appointments, then they'd have to let me have the time paid I think? But then again, don't really want to have to deal with them knowing if it's bad news?

Apart from that quandry though, am trying to not think about it and just be positive. Have got sh*t loads of housework to do, so that should keep me busy!

Your employer has to let you off work for medical appointments don't they? If it's any consolation, I was only in the scan room for around 10 minutes, and was seen straight away at the EPAC.

Bloods are a good idea. They can be repeated in a few days to make sure the hcg levels are increasing (in a healthy pregnancy they double every 48 hours or so).

Problem is, of course, you'll not get much meaningful info from the first lot of bloods, as these will be a 'baseline'. They should be able to say at this stage you should be in *this* range, but the important thing is to see that the levels are doubling every two days.

I wish you all the luck in the world. I had lots of brown discharge on and off for the first two or three weeks. Everything's fine now.
