  • Silly questions are good. I'm now 22 weeks and I'm still full of them.
Every little pain used to drive me mad with worry but as time goes on you do learn to relax a little.

  • We get the nuchal fold test around here for Down Syndrome and that test has to be done between 11 and 13+6 weeks. Although I have read on this forum recently if someone not having a scan in their area until 19 weeks.
Just ask your doctor tomorrow and I'm sure he will explain things to you.

  • Scan day today :j! Saw baby bean, and heard the heart beat. All present and correct :D. Very pleased if exhausted as I slept really badly due to nerves last night. Graduating to the next thread, wishing you all a speedy and healthy first trimester and see you later in the journey!

  • Well scan at lunch time, I must have had too much water as I was bursting for the loo when they pressed down on me!
Very small bean she said (looked like about 15-20mm to me on screen) with visible blood around it on screen. The screen system said its 5-6wks when I've been working on 10-11wk this week - how strange. As a consequence there is no heart beat or baby visible and I've been asked to come back in 2 weeks time (29th Dec) to the EPAU and not have the standard department scan that was booked for 22nd Dec.
Very little blood loss today, so all we can hope is that its still alive and for some reason really small and that in 2wks time there will be a heart beat. I hope there will be no more bleeding as well.

museumworker - glad all is well, hopefully catch you on the next thread!
hiphouse - I wish they had done an extra test today like they did for you....
Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect, you've just decided to see beyond the imperfection.....

I had sharp pain Rups, I asked the midwife and she said it was everything shifting around and expanding (and in my case my appendix scar tissue tearing and reforming - lovely).

I'd consider telling your yoga teacher too, a lot of insurances don't cover you in any way if you're pregnant, and also obviously certain positions are bad for the bean/will become uncomfortable very quickly (I haven't been able to cope with lying on my tummy since 6 weeks). I would imagine Kung Fu is out, as all contact sports are advised against, also anything that raises your core temperature too high or causes exersion. Which has always seemed the purpose of exercise to me!

Sorry the scan wasn't more reassuring Biker Chick.

morning ladies...hope everyone is ok today..

Bikerlady, hope your next scan is very positive. lots of positive thoughts in the meantime and be happy. :0) it will all work out! :)

Thanks for the tips dinah..very much appreciated. i went to the GP today for the first time, and she was so weird. its like she couldnt wait to get me out to see the next patient. i was a bit disaspointed and hubbys getting on my nerves.. think its the hormones. got a bit upset with him because he didnt say good luck. im childish i know. lol

according to the gp, i am nearly 5 weeks. gulp. didnt even realise that!! thought it was still like 2-3 weeks.. she has faxed off a letter for me to see the midwife. was just told not to eat tuna, uncooked meats etc and to do exercise if i do it as its good. i had so many questions, but her lack of i dont know 'interest' just made me want to leave asap. i think i will bug the midwife once i see her. :) she said if i have prolonged pain or bleeding, then i need to see the GP. that was it.. oh and i need folic acid..oh well then iw as out of there!

another question please? when do you tell work people esp the manager? i am a bit nervous about that as i only started this role in August. oops.

Ahhh... well. TBH, ALOT of GP's are like this with first PG appointments as there isnt alot they do themselves- they are a box to be ticked in order to get onto the pregnancy appointment roundabout! So not surprised you found it all a bit underwhelming!

My GP was nice enough, and said congrats, but really didnt say much other than that, and asking which hospital i wanted to be linked to. You should find the MW you see is much better for answering the questions you have.
Its worth having chat with your mum and your OH's family, about any family medical conditions, and what blood group you and OH are. It will help alot ot be prearmed when you go for your booking appointment.

Workwise, you HAVE to tell them by 25 weeks, when you need to have handed in your MATB1 form. Other than that, its up to you. If you suffer with PG sickness, then you may want to tell earlier, as they only have to give you paid time off for appointments, and make allowances for pg sickness/classify pg illness time off differently, once you have told them. If you are well, healthy and able to keep going unaffected, you can wait longer. I was very sick early on, so had to tell my boss at 7 weeks so he didnt think i was just being a useless skiver!

BTW, you probably ARE 2-3 weeks like you thought, in terms of weeks since conception, but they work it from approx date of LMP, which means they add 2 weeks on the front, so your baby is wierdly aged two weeks before it was conceived!
