Ok, after the conversations yesterday I decided that I would do my left over digi (it goes out of date soon anyway!) and it says pregnant 3+ so thats good :0)

Have all the other girls that got their BFP's around the same time as me got a date for their booking in appointment yet? I still don't, hope they haven't forgotten about me!

Have a good day, enjoy the sunshine x

I haven't yet Laura as I haven't even been able to ask for one due to needing to change doctors. I have an appointment with the nurse at my new docs tomorrow to register me so hopefully she'll tell me what I need to do then!! I'd like to be seen ASAP so I can ask about my thyroid.

Nope, and I'm 6 weeks today - I'm a little concerned too, as I read that you should be seen between 8 and 10 weeks and I'm on holiday then!

If I don't get anything by early next week, I'm going to ring the antenatal unit at the hospital and start agitating.

ETA: I have got my scan date though.

I wouldn't worry too much Laura and Lisa. I didn't get my booking in appointment until I thought I was 11 weeks, and had my scan 3 days later! I think it's just different in different areas. If you get it soon, you'l have loads of waiting for the scan, if you get it later everything will happen at once :)

  • Yeah I'm sure it will be fine I am just so desberate to make sure everything is going ok. We checked with my other halfs Crohns consultant that he was ok to continue his meds while we were ttc and he said it would be fine but I know there are conflicting reports concerning Azathiprine and birth defects so would be better to have the scan sooner rather than later. Maybe I should have mentioned it when I spoke to the midwife last week but she called me at work so I couldn't really say a lot with all my work mates there! I'm sure as the consultant said it would be fine it will, I just need to try and chill out

It's easier said than done though, I know that :o Once you get to 12 weeks time honestly flies, I know people say that and you think yeah right, but it does, it's scary.

I'd agree (sorry, back for a nosy catchup! ;)) It's like walking up a long hill - you think you've got AGES to go until you stop and look back and you realise how far you've already come :D

Awww, I've got all philosphical :p

The abnormality scan is at 20 weeks though Laura. The one at around 12 weeks is only for dating and for measuring the fluid on the back of the neck to assess the risk of downs. You might also be able to tell at 12 weeks if the baby had spina bifida but other than that it is very limited because the baby isn't big enough or well formed enough to look at anything else in detail. Having your scan at 11 weeks or 13 weeks wouldn't make a difference to that, nor should it impact on the date for your abnormality scan I shouldn't think (though as I haven't had nhs care for any of my pregnancies thats a guess based on friends experiences)

What kind of birth defects are you worried about?

the dating scan can only be done at 11-13 weeks as it is during this period the baby is a universal size for everyone after this point they grow at different rates so dates are less accurate. the Nuchal scan has to also be done in this time frame. They basically measure the babys length from the top of the head to the bottom of the bottom and use that to give a due dat and the fluid at the back of the neck. Major defects can be picked up but it is unlikely to pick up anything like soft tissue problems, heart issues etc unless very very severe..

The anomaly scan at 18-22 weeks.. depending on where you are it appears! checks all is well structurally.. and this is when any defects will normally be picked up.
