Emsbet, just having a quick lurk on this thread as I am an antenatal teacher (not because I'm pregnant!). Please check the terms of your redundancy. I am concerned from what you have posted that you are getting a lump sum of maternity pay instead of redundancy. f your colleagues are getting redundancy payments then you should be getting the same. Your maternity allowance should then be in addition to this or you should be entitled to claim statutory maternity allowance

You may be able to get free legal advice through your home insurance policy or certainly through Citizens Advice Bureau. Please do check that you are getting everything that you are entitled to and you can pm me if you think I might be able to help.

Thanks. Im pretty sure that I will get both as the girl I sit next to at work is also pregnant and will be leaving before Christmas and has been told that she will get both. I will double check though.

Thanks again for the heads up. :)

    xx

I suppose I am quite lucky that my family are up here.

Think I need to just save as much as we can do before little bambino arrives!

    Yayyyy pleased for you emsbet.

I am also due beginning of april, well 1st to be exact.....I am a bit of an april fool so an april fools baby fits in lol.

Re work, I work in a nursery school, not sure how to play it with easter holidays cos if i work right up i would get easter holidays anyway so maybe my maternity pay can start from the monday we are meant to go back ie monday 16th april or would it not work like that as my due date would be in easter holidays? I will have to check when i go back to work.

Oh and i could never be a stay at home mum, i think i personally need to have adult time too, and chance to go to the toilet without a follower lol, although with working in a nursry school that is not always possible.

Had a lovely day at splashland today, if you haven't been and have little uns i would defo recommend it.

I may be wrong, but i dont think you are allowed (in the statutory rules) to start your M/L after your EDD. My work tends to adhere directly to the stat rules, and our corporate policy says your ML has to start at the latest, on the Sunday before your EDD. If your EDD is a Sunday, then thats the latest.

Having said that, the rules in education might well be different, due to the length of the holidays..

When i had DD1, i went back to work 2-3 days a week (depending on the rota) and my lovely auntie looked after my DD as she was a full time mum herself. My mum died before i had my girls, and there really wasnt anyone we could have asked to help out either. Dh was working 72 hours a week at the time too. When i had DD2, when she was 4 months old, I went back to work full time, and DH became a house husband! Circumstances have now changed, Dh is long term sick from an operation on his kidneys that went wrong, and I have been a SAHM since just before i fell Pregnant with DD3. I love it, however, its not something i wanted to do back when i had DD1! I think its just easier the more children u have to be at home, as there is soooo much organising to do! xx

I am a sahm too, which after a night like last night and the last few days Im soooo grateful of.

If anyone was to ask me what my morning sickness feels like, the best way to describe it at the moment is like having a raging hangover when you've mixed your drinks and pulled an all nighter ! I woke up I dont know how many times last night thinking i was going to throw up and the room was spinning, during the day I have a horrible taste in my mouth that I just cant get rid of. Im starving one minute but cant stomach the thought of any food the next ! All i want to do is sleep but even after a mega nap Im still not refreshed.

Having moaned about all that though I wouldnt change it for the world, me and my OH are closer than we have been in a long time and he is really getting 'into' the pregnancy and openly talking about pushchairs and cots etc. :)

Hope you are all doing well !

Thanks for they advice re mat leave and when it can start. I did think that but thought with it being the holidays i may get away with it as i would be off work anyway.

    I will check with HR.

    Thanks

Hope you feel better soon Mishka.

I'm feeling sick this morning too. I'm drinking Ginger and Lemon tea and eating ginger nuts. When I eat/drink them I feel fine but when I stop I start feeling sick again. Not complaining though as I was worried when I didn't have any ;) Also I'm still on a high from yesterday :D
