i will have five weeks of annual leave to take before mat leave so will be finishing very early!

hopefully they will let me start my mat leave on the due date. if the baby comes early i will just add my annual leave on to the end of mat leave.

Good idea Pigpen. When I move over in a few weeks I'll ask then. Cheers
  • I have 6 weeks leave to take before I take maternity leave so have put those on for May - middle June. My maternity leave starts 4 weeks before baby is due. Its my first baby so not sure how others do it but spoke to a woman at work and she said this is what she did.

supermaiden, I've been thinking about what you said.
You're taking 6 weeks before due date, 4 of which are mat leave. That means if you were taking 9 months off for example, you only have 8 months left after bub is born.

Instead, if you took 4 weeks off before, 2 of these would be mat leave. That then gives you 8 and a half months left after bub is born. It's still the same mat leave allowance but you work 2 more weeks, which in turn gives you 2 more weeks with the baby.

I hope I've explain that in a way that makes sense.

I am taking 6 weeks, then 4 weeks maternity before my due date (11 July) so will be finished work at the last few days of April. Im planning on taking 52 weeks maternity leave. To be honest Im not really sure I want to go back to work, not at this place anyway but that is something to think about next year. Dont really enjoy the job and my manager isnt very nice lol. I actually had a lot of problems to begin with, they thought I was taking the pee with breaks when I was actually going to the loo to throw up! But once the pregnancy was announced they have jumped off my back, thankfully. Manager still thinks I am ok to lift heavy stuff and all that but I just delegate :o We shall see how it goes anyway.
I know I will be heading back before baby's first birthday (if I go back) but hopefully depending on my shift days it wont cross with the day itself or I can switch with someone else.

supermaiden that's fair enough. At least whilst you're off you can have the time to decide if you want to go back or not.

But you shouldn't be lifting heavy stuff. That's bad if they think you can. I hope the next few weeks at work go really quickly for you. Take care, :)
