  • I had bloods done at 10 weeks at my booking appointment but also at 7 weeks, through my GP, as I felt freezing cold all the time and was extremely pale. The GP tested for anemia, thyroid function (I'm under consultant care for my thyroid) and other general tests for infections etc.
At my booking appountment, the midwife tested for pretty much the same, excluding the thyroid function.
If you're worried about your iron levels and don't want to wait for your booking appointment, can you contact your GP to see if they will take your bloods? My GP was pretty helpful - I couldn't get an appointment for a week so I explained to the receptionist that I was pregnant and didn't feel well. A doctor phoned me within an hour and told me to come for blood tests the next day! By the way, my bloods came back fine both times.

    Morning everyone,

I am still lurking (too scared to go over to the big thread :rotfl:). Great to read all the good news, and RWB I am so glad you got on ok with your new midwife :D

Still waiting for OH to scan in pictures for me!

Flower, I was scared at first, but once I'd made the leap, it was fab. They were all lovely, and were able to share their experiences of being pg. It really helped that I could ask questions or have a moan about things and get replies from people who'd had similar experiences and could give fab advice. Then you'll reach the top of the list and be doling out advice yourself. I also found that when I was nearly due, other posters would notice if I hadn't posted and be asking if I was ok, which had me tearful on occasion as it was so lovely that people cared about me.
Good luck with making the leap x

right, back to lurking, when/if Matthew lets me :rotfl:

  • I've been agonising for over a week whether or not to buy a doppler but I've just given in and won a 2nd hand Angelsounds one on ebay :j
If it arrives before next weekend and if I can find a heartbeat, I might just tell all the family instead of waiting another week for the scan. If not, I'll just have to wait til 7th April!

Has anybody else tried a doppler? If so, how far were you before you could find the heartbeat? I'll be 11 weeks on Wednesday so fingers crossed it will work when it gets here!

I have a medical spec doppler and picked the hb up from about 9 weeks but the angelsounds one I never found a hb ever.. over 3 pregnancies. If the baby is laid in your back it is almost impossible to pick up on mine even and it takes a while to find it sometimmes .. but I think it is a flea!

I ordered one at about 11 weeks but didn't pick up baby until about 15 weeks (it was an Angelsounds) - at my scan I was told I had an anterior placenta which explains why it was harder to find the hb earlier on as baby was hiding behind placenta.

Thanks for tips about bloods. If the midwife can do it, I'm just going to hang on till I see her at booking appt. They have me down as 8 weeks, so it should be pretty soon. I have some extra iron supplement stuff that my acupuncturist gave me as a sample, but I haven't tried it yet. It's supposed to be really good about not causing stomach trouble, constipation, etc. though. It's this stuff: http://www.nelsonsnaturalworld.com/en-gb/uk/our-brands/spatone/

Hi all. Hope everyone is ok.

Today is the first day in, what feels like forever, where I haven't woken up feeling like I've got an upset tummy. I've also eaten all my lunch without heaving. So the 'all day' sickness seems to have worn off today.

I'm obviously a very odd women. Everyday that I've been feeling sick, I just wish the sickness would go away. Now that I'm having a sickness free day, I can't help but thinking "at least when I was sick it's a reminder that I'm pregnant. I hope everything in there is ok".
    Not normal am I? :)
