Hi there - I have a quick question I'm hoping you might be able to help me with...
I've had a positive test, but since I had an early miscarriage a few months ago, I've decided not to go to see my GP until I'm at 6 weeks, so that I don't have to go through the cancelling appointments etc if something goes wrong again in the early days. So the plan is that I'll see the GP then and be referred to the hospital for booking in etc (I need to go to a special hospital because of existing health issues).

However, when I had the miscarriage, the EPU (at a different hospital) said that when I became pregnant again I should contact them and they'd do tests etc. - I presume to check it was looking OK and put my mind at ease.

So does anyone have an idea of which I should do first? Any early scans etc would be very welcome, but I don't want to do things the wrong way around and get things confused between hospitals.

    TIA

They would do bloods 48 hours apart to check the HcG is rising (a couple of clearblue digi's do that too ;) ) but would be unlikely to scan until 6 weeks as there is very little to see.. a sac and possibly a foetal pole and yolk sac.. a Hb is unlikely to be visible until 7+ weeks.

I'd stick with your 6 week plan.. do you even need to see the GP or do you self refer to MW for booking.. might be worth speaking to the Gp surgery to find out.

The problem is, even if they do scans and bloods it doesn't stop a mc happening.. and a viable pregnancy at 6 weeks doesn't mean you'll get to 12... I know that sounds a bit harsh, it isn't meant to be, just reality. It really honestly does not reassure you.

I've had 7 mc's and all but 1 I had bleeding massively at 9-10 weeks. but had I been scanned at 6 weeks everything would have looked perfect. the 7th one I went for booking scan and the baby was dead and had been for a couple of weeks and I felt truly horrific, I had never felt so unwell in my life.

    Hi everyone,

Im here because I'm all over the place. Im not sure if im in the right thread but here goes.

I found out i was positve on tue night, BIG shock was told i wouldnt concieve naturally but here i am 7 years later with 2 lines! Yes im pleased but soooo unprepared - 2 panic attacks later.

My dr thinks maybe im 14wks but not 100% sure - will they know for sure off a scan? how long do u wait for a scan? when do i tell people as my MIL is hounding me and i'm hiding after 2 carrier bags of baby clothes appeared at my house within 24hrs! she went shopping!! she says i need to get over it - I say i need a little time for me to adjust. Mu husband is over the moon - I'm petrified.... I havent had any folic acid, ive been on clairithromycin abx (not meant for expecting mums) and 6 weeks of ibuprofen and tramadol!!!!!!!

But nice to meet u all x

They can estimate within a days from a scan. The scan will come through when it does, yours will probably be sooner rather than later!

Tell mil to back off and not to buy anything else until you know everything is ok. I don't tell anyone when I am pg which avoids all that lol

I haven't had folic acid either, and if you have been sticking to recommended doses of ibuprofen and tramadol the chances are they will have had no effect at all. If you mention the abx at the scan they will check a bit closer the major organs and will check in greater detail at your 20wk scan

    and again.. congratulations

Thank you - and the others - for responding.
Yeah I know I've just got to get through the next 8 weeks before the risks are reduced - I think I might feel worse if I miscarry after seeing a perfect scan. Ah well, here's to a long couple of months...:o
  • Again thanks - its nice to talk to someone other than OH and MIL lol

    :D
    ww: -2.5, -4.5 lb
  • Congratulations andfear - that must have been a shock! The scan will confirm your dates. Do you remember the first da of your last period?

Sweaty Betty - maybe best to book in with your GP and take it from there. Or call the EPU at the hospital and see what they advise over the phone.

Forgot to call the GP today, so still no appointment. Why does my GP have to be so backwards?! Also, I think I'm going to have to stop using my big buggy. It's so heavy, and I really struggled lifting it into the car today. It really put a strain on my tummy. Best dig the lightweight stroller out!

    Urgh, just having a moan.

OH is moaning about the size of the washing pile and ironing pile. I've been physically incapable of doing much and told him he should have been helping more over the last 3 weeks. His response? I put a wash in yesterday. 1 wash in 3 weeks! And very little else might I add. Ready to lose the plot.
  • Hope you've calmed down now Nikki! At least he's done a wash - so he's moving in the right direction! I nearly fainted the other day as DH took everything out of the tumble dryer, instead of the one item for himself that he normally takes out.

Not much going on here. Time is dragging.

When did/will you tell parents? Pigpen - does OH know yet? I hope all is ok.

I'd just wash everyone else's clothes apart from his, until one morning when he's trying to get dresssed and realises all his clothes are dirty, and gets it.

I was considering this but after I told him what I thought of his 'apparent having to do everything' rant he reconsidered and now a other washing has been done and all the dishes done.

He apologised for being moody aswell - apparently he thinks I'm going to put myself back in hospital. All this because I didn't want breakfast this morning? I've also gone off dairy and he's insisting on macaroni cheese for tea...sigh. God help him when I start to feel better.

On a more positive note, although i still feel crap I have not actually been sick for the last 3 days! Yay!
