I can't even have mocktails due to my diabetes, all that fruit juice would not be good, so it's not like I can pretend I am drinking. Also rather than spend money on expensive taxis I may as well make advantage of my situation and drive the car into town!

    What would you do???

Can't you say that you can't drink cos of your diabetes?

Surely cocktails have fruit juice in them that would be the same as mocktails and there is alot of sugar in alcohol?

Say you would prefer a nice dessert instead of drinks filled with sugar???

(i'm not totally clued up on diabetes so feel free to ignore me!!!)

& volunteer to be Des for the evening?

I'd go from the diabetes angle too probably.. say I'd had lots of erratic bs's the last few days so might be coming down with something and go on a rant about the till lady in the supermarket sneezing and snotting on your shopping. But you need to be sober to check bs properly through the night.

My son was told to avoid alcohol when he was dx.. . aged 12 lol. He was sad so they were trying to cheer him up.

  • Hello, can I join in please?

Found out on Sunday that we are pregnant! :j Only been trying since New Years eve but this baby is so wanted. Got a bfp on a tesco own brand, but couldn't quite believe it so bought a clear blue digi which actually said pregnant. Only 4 weeks, so still sinking in. But have had awful lower back ache, nausea and some cramping earlier in the week.

Can't quite believe we're going to have a baby! So excited, and desperate to tell people. (useless at keeping secrets). This will be our first Baby and we have just moved house and adopted a cat, so it's been a busy few weeks in our house.

Anyways, just wanted to say hi, and that I'm glad I can at least share my excitement with some like minded people. :o

  • Congrats engagedlady.

Sigh..the journey to my 12 week scan seems to be taking forever. In fact the closer I get, the further away it seems.

I'm really afraid of a mmc, trying so hard to push the thought out of my mind, but having no symptoms and not feeling pregnant at all is always nagging at the back of my mind :(

One thing I have noticed though, is my boobs are definitely bigger. Not sore at all, but bigger.

Got a UTI apparently too which was twinging a bit last night, have to get some anti b's for that.

Booking appt through.. 26th Feb, so I'll be 13 or 9 weeks lol... and scan will be 2 weeks after that judging by previous 2. No nuchal scan for us again.

This week is my usual miscarriage week so the twitching has stepped up a notch. If I can manage to get to next Wednesday without a hospital visit I will be surprised, I can't see me having 3 successful pregnanies in a row, I only managed it once before and that was when 2 of the 3 were twins and I lost 1 both times... I'm stressing today can you tell?

MV.. I felt absolutely revolting with my MMC so much worse than with any of the others. I panic if I feel too bad lol. When is your scan? (save me looking back)

  • congratulations engagedlady

not sure if I can hide it too well as I might have to cut down on gym classes so people at gym might guess. I do Zumba then step aerobics tonight and I'm not sure if I should/ will keep going with it. I spoke to a midwife today and she said don't push it with your blood pressure. Any good excuses for just doing one class?

I think it's hard because you only want to tell people that you would actually want to tell very personal bad news, just in case.

good luck pigpen, I keep imagining people with dancing knickers now lol
  • Thanks for the welcome.

So, just told my sister over lunch. We are very close as we live near each other and she would probably have guessed. However, she is under strict instructions not to tell a soul. Going to wait to tell other family members.

If something did go wrong, then I would definately want her support. She was thrilled for us and has sworn not to tell anyone.

Luckily we don't have any drink related events until late March, by which time we can start telling people.

With my 3 mc's I've always had bleeding, but for some reason I can't get the idea of a mmc out of my head :(

    Welcome engagedlady and congrats

@ telling people we told family around 5/6 weeks and I told my best friend. It's a tough one but I decided if the worst happened I would tell them anyway and I wanted them to share the joy of of ours in case the worst happened. I told by BFF (who has been ttc for 12+ months) that was really tough but I got some great advice from the ttc thread about the best way to approach it. I honestly sobbed while telling her (via text message) but she appreciated the way I told her ( my heart is broken at the difficultly) she is having) but it was great to tell her.

At MV hope all is well and thinking of u as ur scan approaches x x x

Cocktails are sugary, the point is that before I fell pregnant I could and did have occasional cocktails - being a pregnant diabetic is much much stricter than being a non pregnant diabetic as you can't risk any high blood sugars whereas normally the odd one or two is fine.

The problem is I think it will be obvious, whatever I say, because they all know I was trying and up until last week I was well up for cocktails and was even singing the praises of one called a '!!!!!! star' which I said I had to have that evening!

So they will be suspicious of the sudden change in heart!

I could I suppose say that I am trying to be extra healthy for TTC / 2WW, I think they would all secretly think 'yeah right' but it means I wouldn't have to actually admit it.
