To the person who mentioned the anti climax after the BFP... yes feeling it well an truly!!! Too early to buy anything or do anything baby related. Starting to run out of excuses why I am not drinking.... Have an engagement meal on Saturday, so have to make my excuses why I am not drinking!!! Luckily a lot of the going out is with different groups!!!
I will be an older mum as well 36... is that an old mum???
Still only me and the OH know about the pregency!!! I am too scared to tell anyone at the mo...
Phoned the Hospital, have my booking in and scan at 10 weeks... only 3 weeks!!!
I'm 36 too Welsh comic, in fertility terms you're made to feel like that's absolutely ancient, like you'll be rocking up to antenatal clinic with a zimmer frame or something.
I've told my parents about the pg, plus various health professionals and then because it's affecting my diabetes I had to tell my boss today, as I drive for my work and my blood sugars are now unstable. He was really good about it though and said not to put myself in any danger.
Its my birthday in 2 weeks and the minute I'm seen to not be drinking EVERYONE will know, no antibiotics excuses will wash as they all knew I was trying, so not sure there's much point keeping the cat in the bag after then, although I won't say anything I'll just refuse any offers of booze in favour of diet coke and watch the pennies drop.0 -
I've still not told anyone apart from DH. It's starting to become difficult. My mum has just text me to ask if I want to go clothes shopping for my birthday this Friday. I am having to make an excuse (in addition to all the not drinking excuses such as driving, headache, toothache, dieting) that I can't get the time off work because I know I won't be able to buy any normal size clothes that fit. Had to go out and buy new bras this week and my trousers and tight tops are gaping a bit.
I feel so bad about lying that I might speak to DH and see if he wants to give in and tell parents this weekend.
I've had no sign of booking appt, or scan yet and I'm now 11 weeks. EEEK!!0 -

Im umming and ahhhing with the telling people.
We kept it quiet last time but then I ended up miscarrying at 9 weeks, at which point immediate family found out anyway, so im kind of wondering whats the point in keeping it quiet.
I didnt buy anything with my last pg as I didnt want to tempt fate but that got me nowhere so if I see any bargains I'll be snapping them up!0 -
Welcome Nessie, congratulations
Am so tempted to get a doppler, but I don't know if I'd even know if it was a heartbeat or not. I remember at the 16 week appointment and the midwife saying "And there's the heartbeat" and I didn't have a clue what I was listening for
.
I have a doppler (I'm lurking here again from the 12-24 thread:p) - and I love it! Its so interesting and reassuring for me. You will find 2 "heartbeats" - one for your placenta which is much slower (and the same rate as yours) and then the baby's which is much faster (double the speed) - it sounds like choo choo choo - about 2 beats per minute! I have tracked the growth in my baby also - as the heartbeat is now much higher than it was before (it used to be near my pelvis but is now near my tummy button!). I also now hear the baby making some funny noises; swallowing probably but who knows - it could be having a right party in there!!!:D
I also don't use gel - I find Bio-oil much better (doubles up for stretch marks so all good!) and it doesn't evaporate - use a good squirt though. I have the Angel Sounds one - bought off Ebay for £20 new - looks like a dodgy chinese import but absolutely fab! I love it and feel without it I would be missing out on some of the baby's development! (I reckon I should sell dopplers - thats how great I think they are LOL - I'm a doppler geek!!!!).
The thing not to do is stress though if you can't find a heartbeat and try another day, and only use one from after the first 12 week scan otherwise you might start worrying unecessarily - sometimes baby can be too small to hear before the 12 week scan. From 15 weeks when I bought one, I could find baby's heartbeat every time.0 -
How many heartbeats did you pick up
Think I found ds2 at about 9 weeks, you must definitely be further along theres no way you could only be 5, have you made an app with the midwife for your scans etc?
3 possibly.. inc mine.. lol (mine was about 70, 1 was about 120 and 1 was about 135... lol... there won't be more than 1 in there I'm sure.)
Not had booking appt yet and scan appts given then, will be about another 5 weeks before I have booking and scan 2 more after that.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Carp, I just got an email from my head of department saying 'congratulations on your news' - I guess my boss told her, I hope now the whole department doesn't know as I'm only 5 weeks gone! I had to tell my boss due to my medical problems but didn't think he'd pass it up the chain! Asking one of the head office staff for clarification on the maternity policy probably didn't help - I work in HR - nothing is secret!
Ah well if everything goes smoothly they'll find out anyway and if it doesn't then it won't be such a shock if I need to take time off.0 -

Oh dear, that seems a little unfair really! I'm sure you'll have wanted to keep it secret a little longer. Why don't you email them back and request that the news doesn't travel any further just yet? I'm hoping to go another 6-7 weeks without telling work (currently 9 weeks!)
Have just had a whole morning at the docs having a glucose tolerance test, did manage to catch up on some reading though!
Hope everyone is doing well and congratulations to those of you that have recently joined the thread xx0 -
has anyone had a urinary tract infection in early pregnancy?
Just had a call from the MW who said I have one, and need to see my GP next week to get antibiotics for it.
She also said I need to drink more water, which is just making me run to the loo even more. I swear people at work here think I'm mad.Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0
