    Hi All

Hugs to those feeling sick and throwing up. I'm still just battling nausea. Spoke to my Mum the other day who helpfully pointed out that she was nauseous when pregnant with me for the entire 9 months so she's decided I'm going to be the same and am therefore having a girl. I didn't remind her that I felt like this in first tri when pregnant with DS and that it only lasted a few more weeks... Really not too bothered what flavour baby I get, but would very much like for the nausea to go away soon!

I have my 2nd midwife appointment on Friday and also my flu jab. Has anyone had this already? Did it make you feel ill? I've never had one before so not really sure what to expect.

And only 16 days to my scan (not that I'm counting or anything!:o) Sorry, I can't remember who was asking about the nuchal testing, but for my hospital I have a consent form to fill in - I have to consent separately to the dating scan and to the down's syndrome testing, so it is possible to skip that bit and just have the dating part of the scan. I'll be having the down's testing and then will consider the amniocentesis based on whether the risk of down's is higher than the risk of miscarriage from the amnio. I'll be almost 39 when this baby is due and am wary of having a disabled child that I may not be physically able to care for for the duration of its' natural life.

I think you are considered an "older mum" if you are 35+ I know I was considered old when I got pregnant with DS at 35. I'd turned 36 by the time he was born and had very few problems, certainly nothing serious. I know people in their early 40s who've had babies with no problems, and people in their late 20s who've had all kinds of issues. Being older is more risky, but it certainly doesn't mean you're guaranteed to have problems.

Oh yeah, and the nausea is waking me up in the night too now - well it has for the past 2 nights in a row - so I'm getting a crap sleep as a result. Not sure what I can do in the middle of the night to make it better...

lovecake, I keep a little tub of ginger biscuits in my bedside cabinet in case I wake in the night feeling sick. Feels very naughty to be munching biscuits in the middle of the night, but it does the trick :o

BigBird I had my flu jab last week - no side affects apart from a sore arm. I'm sure you'll be fine. I had it last year too, just because I had bad flu in winter 2010 so I just paid for it and didn't have any problems then either. I think there is only a small risk of a reaction - my friend has hers the other week because she has Asthma and she had a bad headache and felt a bit crap for a couple of days, but I don't think that is common.

Thanks! That's a good idea, although I seem to have gone off anything sweet at the moment so it will need to be some crackers or something salty...

Does it not annoy your OH that you are crunching away in the middle of the night? :rotfl:

BigBird - I had my flu jab yesterday. It didn't hurt at all at the time, just a tiny !!!!! when they put the needle in. My arm has been a little bit sore since then but the nurse said that it should be fine after a couple of days. She also said it might feel quite warm but I haven't noticed that.

He's never said anything yet. Though to be honest, he'd be a fine one to comment as I doubt me eating biscuits for a couple of minutes is anywhere near as annoying as his snoring that I have to put up with for most of the night!

Cheers for the advice on the flu jab. I wasn't sure if it would give me mild flu symptoms or something and since we're going out on Saturday night I don't really want to be feeling rough. (Must remember to take my ginger biscuits with me too as we'll be staying over at the in-laws :p)

Today is the first day in a long time that I am starting to want sweet things. Before I’ve only been interested in snacking salty savoury food, particularly crisps. My nausea doesn’t seem to be as bad either, and I even feel a bit ‘normal’. I know I should be grateful for this, but the irrational part of me is worried that disappearing symptoms is a sign that something’s wrong. The rational part of my brain is saying that chances are everything’s fine and I’m worrying over nothing. I wish I didn’t over analyse everything, it’s exhausting!

I second the suggestion of having biscuits/snacks by your bed. For the past few nights I’ve woken up about 2/3am and have had a nibble of something and I’ve felt much better.

Congrats(!) for being sick mrsj. I’ve only been sick once so far and I felt so much better afterwards. I strangely felt a bit proud afterwards, as if it was a great achievement after the continuous nausea!

Lol re the congrats on being sick. I really hope it doesnt get to the stage, I hate being sick :( I have felt slightly nauseous on off for the last few weeks, but it seems to be subsiding a little?? Not gonna read too much into that. On the other hand my sense of smell is really coming through now that my rotten cold is going and I can smell everything! And the j-cloth in the kitchen sink is really minging, lol!

Just eaten a delish fondant fancy and really want another one! Really don't want to literally eat for two but they were so tasty..what to do!

Oh and I called my drs re the whooping cough and turns out I shouldnt have been offered it so early, it was a mistake on their part. Thank goodness for that, really didnt fancy another jab now

Hope everyone else is coping with the nausea - it is the worst symptom to deal with out of all the other symptoms Ive had so far :(
