Oh no... promise not to get freaked out if you can't find it :)
The whooshing is normally the placenta as Mishka said, then you can also pick up your own heartbeat, which is at about normal pace. When you find the baby's it is superfast (120-160 beats a minute) - unmistakeable once you know what you're looking for. If the placenta's in the way it might be difficult to pick up and 10 weeks is quite early to be looking for a heartbeat with a standard hospital issue thingy, nevermind a home doppler :)

I can't find anything fast sounding, so guessing I must have found my own heartbeat?! Can you find your own heartbeat down there?

If you get too near your groin you can pick up the femoral artery I believe,

Your midwife wont listen in for hb till around 16 weeks, up till then its much harder to find (didnt use mine till around 22+ weeks) or at least be confident that it is that you've found !

  • We had to push really hard to find it at first and even now at 28 weeks i can't always find his heartbeat even if i can feel him kicking back against the doppler!!!

I wouldn't suggest a full bladder... i don't think it would help and with the pushing you might wet yourself!!!

We first heard the hb at 8+6 ... thought i was 8+2 but at my dating scan i moved forward 4 days so he must have been 4 days bigger :D

re: the annual leave, yes if you're not planning to return before the end of your holiday year you should take it all at the start, with the proviso that the latest your maternity can start is the sunday before your due date (expected week of childbirth) and if they come earlier it automatically starts on their birth date.

I developed an awful cough/sore throat when I was about 8-9 weeks pregnant, was much much worse when lying down, and it turned out to be reflux. Have been on ranitidine ever since and had no problems. Can't remember if you have other cold symptoms but if it's just a cough/sore throat it's worth getting checked out.

Thanks LittleMoog, I thought i'd be able to use it before I left. Think my EDD is between 20-27th March so plan to use my 6 weeks from the start of February, can't wait!!

Yep,mine is really bad when I lie down.Felt okay yesterday afternoon but as I was getting ready for bed I could feel my throat getting even sorer and i was coughing more again. Had the good intention of going back to work today but had another rubbish nights sleep and woke up feeling absolutley useless so will rest again today and go back tomorrow. Dreading going back in as I know none of my work will have been touched as per usual!

re: other cold symptoms- I feel bunged up, had a runny nose now and again but it's just mainly a really stupid chesty cough that just won't clear up! Docotr was useless yesterday and just said, there is nothing I can do, you will have to wait for it to go-gee thanks!!

2b, hope you are okay and not using the doppler too much! I'd be useless with having something like that as I'd get myself stressed all the time if I couldnt hear anything!

Managed to get two lots of maternity trousers on ebay over the last few days, won some mothercare jeans last night for £4 incl P+P! When I was up in London at the olympics a few weeks ago, I got some lovely tops from H+M maternity and they were really reasonable. Struggled getting into their trousers (im a size 16/18 and have always found H+M sizings way too small, even when i was a size 12/14!)

Hope everyone is feeling okay and looking forward to the bank holiday weekend!

Good win abby! I got a pair of brand new mama and pappas leggings from ebay the other day for a few squids, which are SUPER DUPER comfy! not that I have a bump to put in them yet!

Thanks to everyone for the advice with the doppler. I've given up with it and will try again in a week - I'm actually much more relaxed about it than I thought I would be! Dont worry -Im not freaking out!! Also, I'm no skinny minny - so it has several layers of flab to work its way through!! :D

Been suffering quite badly with diarrhea over the last few days - 10 weeks today. Anybody else had this too?

Oh and I am completely bunged up! Not really got a runny nose but finding it hard to breathe - very odd!

Hope all you ladies are OK, it's lovely weather here and I am SO glad to be off work today!!
    xx

  • oh, I may look for some maternity leggings aswell as I love my everyday leggings as they are sooo comfy!

Good idea to leave the doppler for a week or so, maybe then it will be easy to find the heartbeat?

I'm the opposite to you re: diarrhea, I've had ulcerative colitis for 10 years and without going into too much info I've had to cope with things like that every single day-and with urgency. Since I've fallen pregnant I've gone the other way, which has been amazing for me! feel so much better within myself (apart from this week!)

I really don't know what i'd suggest for you to take, amybe one of the other ladies will be along to offer advice soon. I'm hoping you don't get this dready lurgy, not fun when pregant and can't take anything!!

2b I remember having much looser stools in early pregnancy. Apparently apples are meant to be good for helping it. Just make sure you keep your fluids up, and try to keep an eye on what you're eating - it may be that you've become sensitive to something now that you're pregnant (very acid foods like tomato and orange and strong garlic set me off).
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

    Thank you both :)

I have been eating a lot of cheese, I wonder if I have become sensitive to it, or just trying to think if the increase of 5mg folic acid has made a difference. I will monitor!

I've been very good so far and had some toast!

  • could be the cheese but come to think of it, when I started my high dosage folic acid back in oct, I seem to remember my colitis being worse! keep an eye on it and keep drinking!
