Oh that is good to hear Ikkle thanks! I am hanging on for Thursday AM and praying. I think you get higher mc risks if you have mc before though too!

  • Hi everyone, had my 12 week scan today (I'm officially 11 weeks 4 d days). I was so relived to see them both safe and well especially after reading about disappearing twins eek. The first baby even waved at me they were both moving and you could see their hearts beating it was amazing. I even said "its a baby" doh!! I can relax a bit more now :)

  • Hi All,

Just found out that im pregnant with my first baby! Looks as though im between 5-6 weeks!

I rang the gp today to see if it's too early to make an appt to see the midwife and they said it's fine and have booked me in for next tuesday afternoon!

What exactly happens in the first appt and when do they usually book you in for a scan? Is it between 10 and 12 weeks?

Hope you are all well and coping okay in this heat!

Hi abby! I shouldn't really be on here but pop back quite often - I'm almost 22 weeks :)

If that's your proper 'booking in' appointment with the midwife, you're lucky to have it so early but it's really boring - nothing of interest just lots of form filling, I got weighed and blood pressure (and blood tests!) taken. I had to go to the GP first to get referred to the midwife team and that was a real waste of time. Scan will be around 12 weeks as that's when it's accurate to date the baby and also if your area does the nuchal test for Down's syndrome it has to be done before 13+5 I think.

    Hello Abby!

Are you seeing the midwife at your GP surgery? If so, it's probably just to say hello, get you in the system and have a chat about healthy lifestyle during pregnancy etc. The long "booking appointment" when they go through everything is usually at 8-10 weeks.

Hey 2b, I thought I'd just pop back and reassure you - your risk of miscarriage doesn't go up after you've had one, it's only when you've had two or more that it starts to increase (and then it's only slightly for two, and more for 3+). You have the same chance (75%) as everyone else of having a baby at the end of this process :)

    Good luck at your scan!
  • Hey savage and kate,

I really wasnt expecting to be seen so soon. I thought I would make an appt now as Im going to the olympics w/c 6th August and thought i could book in after that.

Yeah, the midwife is based at the GP's surgery. I thought I may also have to see the GP due to the fact that I have a bowel disease, so they will probably have to get in contact with my hospital consulatant aswell.

savage-hope you are okay at the 22 week stage!

It's all so exciting and im itching to tell friends, but have just told the grandparents so far and going to wait until after the scan to tell our friends/work.

Thank you sa-ra-ra-ra! That's put my mind at rest a little.

Have really sore gums today - anybody else experienced this early on?
