Check with them at the scan place to make sure as I'm not sure when dating has to be done, but if you're having the nuchal test it has to be before a certain time or the little thing that they measure goes away. Babycentre says the scan (for the nuchal test) must be between 11 weeks and 13 weeks plus six days of pregnancy

Ah thanks for this, we do want the nuchal test, so I will check this with midwife during my booking in scan on Monday. I am back home before I am 13 weeks, as I change date on a Wednesday, so maybe they can try and book it in early in the week, if it is a problem ;)

Thanks Ally & SavageHK, I'll try not to worry, easier said than done :). Hope you get your scan date soon.

Just got back from seeing the consultant - I've seen her before for previous gynae problems and I'm glad it's someone I know! We had a good old chat about the symptoms and I am very reluctant to go on antidepressants again, although she did say that if I need help, there are meds that I can take. I'm going to try with the strategies that I have for a couple of weeks, then see my GP if the tiredness / low mood / feelings of hopelessness lift. I found it helped that someone just gave me a good listening to.

Ally, do you mind me asking how old you are? I'm 38, will be 39 next month.

Thanks. MW friend told me to come home and rest and I am now booked in for a scan and assessment at the EPU on Monday morning. GP can't think of any reason for it, no sex recently or anything else. I think I need to step away from Dr Google, it's going to be a long few days

Around half of women who have spotting in the first trimester go on to have a healthy baby. Try and be reassured by that.

But can you kick up a fuss and get seen tomorrow? Monday is too long to wait IMO and IME. Phone the GP or EPU and get arsy about it. They are supposed to be emergency clinics. Can you imagine calling A and E and being given an appointment four DAYS later?

Talk it up a bit, it's red, you feel a bit crampy. Don't worry about tempting fate because nothing you do or dont do, including resting, will make any difference to the outcome.

If you want more info or help give me a shout.

Thanks Skintchick, it seems to be turning yellowish now and there seems much less of it than previously. I will see now I am later. GP did say to call back or call out of hours service if I was worried. I am also on the books now at the EPU, so I can call them directly

Congrats for all the good news and scan updates. It's nice to see you all moving forwards.

Hugs for the spotting Millie, mine has stopped and had nothing since. My symptoms have died down a bit which is always a niggle. Fingers crossed for you.

I have a scan in 11 days. (longest count down ever) at 7 weeks. I am hoping so much there is a sticky one in there. xxxx

Chin up roversbabe hun. I was 38 when got my BFP and 39 now. I had NT and bloods done & came back low risk, despite my age, so try & think positive if you can. I worried just like you until the result came through. I'm now 24 weeks and all seems fine. I broke down sobbing at my booking in cos I thought I was too old & there would be all sorts of problems. My midwife reassured me & said lots & lots of women of all ages have healthy babies. The odds are actually pretty good - just focus on the positive sweetie xxx

Sorry, I know I shouldn't be on here any more but I just had to say that people with Down's Syndrome ARE healthy. They have a life expectancy of around 60 years and most live very happy and fulfilled lives.

I know it can be shock to think you might be expecting a child that is different, but even children with severe disabilities can have good quality of life.

But hugs for Roversbabe for the shock. Hope you can get the help you need with your depression hun.

    Morning all,

I think I'm going to take your advice, Skintchick and call the EPU when they open. I've had a few aches and pains overnight and I don't want to leave it over the weekend as it's likely I wouldn't get a scan.

The one consolation is that it was awful MS that woke me up, I am taking this to be a good thing right now

I'll report back later, hope everyone is ok x

Skintchick, I didn't mean to imply that people with Down's couldn't be healthy/fulfilled - I have friends who have siblings & children with Down's. I was referring to my booking in appt where I was worried that being pregnant at my age with a first baby would be problematic, but that really the odds are good that things will be ok, and it's better to focus on the positives.
