..just dropping in to comment on the higher-risk of Downs due to age thing..
I was 38 when I had my son (am 39 now), and had the same worries about my age/higher Downs risk/Googled far too much etc. Went for my anomaly scan, and was told by the sonographer there that in her experience, she has seen more abnormalities in younger women under 25 than older one's in their 30's to 40+.
I found her very reassuring, was still cr*pping myself about the whole thing though, but ended up with a 1 in 44,000 chance of a Downs baby so I was extremely relieved.
I guess I just wanted to say, honestly I don't think age is as crucial as some doctors/media would have you believe, and in fact I think it just adds yet another layer of stress and worry to pregnancy when you really don't need it.
Good luck everyone xMetranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
Sorry, I know I shouldn't be on here any more
But please stay for as long as it feels right and as long as you are taking care of yourself too, because I, for one feel comforted for you being here xx0 -

Skint - hang around as long as you like, whatever you need.
Millie - hope you get through to EPU today.
Cold a lot better today but for the first time I've actually been sick. Thought nausea symptoms were easing off but this morning I've been retching like a good un. Not throwing up last nights tea if you know what I mean though.
Still waiting on my scan date. Its a week now since my booking in appt, think I'll give them till next week before ringing up. They had computer problems when I was at the booking in so I wouldn't want to get to 12 wks, ring up and them say, oh, we have no record, you'll have to wait another few weeks!!
My mum and dad are off on holiday today and as I work for them I think I'll be taking an executive decision that no farm work can be done due to the rain and I will just have to watch Andy. Have to say today.....
COME ON MURRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Skint, please stay as long as you like. I know I for one will be lurking on the TTC thread or any other thread you might be on to see how you are getting on (I hope that doesn't make me sound like too much of a stalker :rotfl: but you seem such a lovely lady and I am really hoping you get your sticky bean soon x)
Millie, I hope you can get an appointment today to help put your mind at rest.
Congrats on the successful scans yesterday Roversbabe and tattoo!
Zcrat, boo for the rubbish cold and the being sick! So far I have only actually been sick twice but felt sick and retched on plenty of occasions. I am hoping that is it for me now but I am thinking I might be sick one last time in two weeks - I have been known to be physically sick because I am really tired and we are going on holiday soon and have a cab booked for 4:30am
Can't believe I am the next one to have their scan done! I am getting excited now, although not trying to get too excited just in case. I am really excited about the thought of being able to tell people as well! Became Mrs W in 2011:smileyhea Blessed with Baby boy 1 in 2013, Baby boy 2 in 2016 and Baby boy 3 in 2018 :smileyheaDebt @ 19/8/11 [STRIKE]£20,060 [/STRIKE] current £0Paid off 100% :dance:0 -

Thanks everyone for your positive thoughts, it was just a shock at the midwife appointment as I'd not really given it much thought. She was quite blunt about the age risk and combined with how I'm feeling, it just floored me for a little while. In fairness, I did know this but didn't really think about it. She also referred me to the consultant same day for depression which I thought was excellent x
Am a lot more upbeat today, trying to focus on the positive. I really don't want to take any meds.
I know that children with Downs can live a happy life, I just wasn't expecting to be quite so high risk.
Izzydogsam - thanks for sharing your experience, sounds like we're very similar in age. I think I'm far too old for this too xx
Metranil Vavin , it's great to hear that your blood results came back as low risk, fingers crossed for mine. xxOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 027

I think I'm going to take your advice, Skintchick and call the EPU when they open. I've had a few aches and pains overnight and I don't want to leave it over the weekend as it's likely I wouldn't get a scan.
The one consolation is that it was awful MS that woke me up, I am taking this to be a good thing right now
I'll report back later, hope everyone is ok x

Hey roversbabe, we'll be fine! My mum was almost 42 when she had me & I'm all right, although some people might say otherwise
I'm feeling ok & thinking what will be will be. My midwife was really positive & said in some respects your thirties are a great time to be pregnant, as generally your life is much more sorted. So hang in there hun xxx
