The restrictions on most things (including soft ice-cream) is due to the risk of listeriosis.
If you fancied it, you could do some research on the instances of listeriosis in developed countries, and how frequently it's caused by a) things that the NHS tell you you can't eat, and b) things the NHS positively encourage you to eat - salads and fruit, for example.
And then you could make an educated decision on it. And maybe swear at the NHS a little for scaremongering and conveniently ignoring relevant information because it doesn't suit them.
But I wouldn't presume to advise anyone, you'd need to make your own decision on it0 -
Wow Sillysausage thats fabulous news!!!
Welcome to all the new guys, its nice to be over here in some good company. The books we ordered at the weekend were dispatched today so hoping they will get here tomorrow. Got a pregnancy bible coming so hopefully that will keep me off google.
Thanks for the hayfever tips, I'm using Optrex eye drops as they are herbal (ones for contact lense users). Nose is not to bad at the moment so hope it stays that way. Biggest issue I have is currently itching skin. My legs actually look bruised from the itching. Not sure if its lack of antihistamines or a pregnancy symptom - cocoa butter seems to relieve it so don't think its allergy

Welcome newbies, is a busy time:)
I had 1 mcflurry and it gave me (TMI!) Bad diarrhoea... considering I have been mildly constipated the rest of the time it was quite a feat! Of course it might have just been a coincidence but it didn't feel like it at the time!
Big Congrats on twins, I would be thrilled, not sure about oh!
I am knackered, going to veg and watch Gordon xDFW Nerd #1310 -
If anyone is looking for a great book for their OHs then this one is great:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baby-Manual-Conception-Haynes-Workshop/dp/1844257592/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340741476&sr=8-1
It mainly focuses on the baby once it is born so you may want to look around for a pregnancy based one but this is really good as it is in "man speak" and puts an amusing tone on things. Became Mrs W in 2011:smileyhea Blessed with Baby boy 1 in 2013, Baby boy 2 in 2016 and Baby boy 3 in 2018 :smileyheaDebt @ 19/8/11 [STRIKE]£20,060 [/STRIKE] current £0Paid off 100% :dance:0 -

Hi all
Can I join? I am 8 weeks tomorrow, due 6/2, have my booking in appt on 9/7. I have had 2 scans already as I have been bleeding/ spotting quite a bit. Saw heartbeat last week which was absolutely lovely and surprised everyone. I couldn't believe how much baby grew in 10 days no wonder I had been so hungry haha.
Anyway, this is my 3rd baby, but the other 2 are older, going to be nearly a 11 year age gap! Things have changed a lot in that time, it seems a little more hi-tech and scary. We are not telling anyone till I am 12 weeks, mainly because I think the other 2 should be first to know and it will be a long pregnancy if we tell them now. I did want to tell them after scan but a week before we are on hol and dd will work it out from my lack of alcohol and usage of hot tub :rotfl:
Nice to meet you all and congrats on pregnancies x0 -
Hi Allys - welcome to the thread. I'm around 8 wks like you too.
Cake4brains - congrats on the wedding but how poo about the cheese. My heaven includes lots and lots and lots of cheese that you can eat for ever and not get fat!
Woke up this morning and felt fine for the first time in 2 weeks - no nausea and only mildly tired. Made me realise how pants I've been feeling for a couple of weeks and how well I've done just to get on with life really!
On a bad note I tried on a shirt for work this morning that was gaping massively on the chest area:o0 -
skintchick wrote: »Yep. No soft ice cream. Normal ice cream is fine though. Usually the midwife will refer to it as Mr Whippy type rather than saying McFlurries but I'd have thought they did mention it.
Funnily SC the midwife didn't tell me anything that I shouldn't eat ...but I did look in the pregnancy book I got given although it doesn't say anything about soft ice cream!!!
Congrats Cake4Brains!!!
Ally - Why no hot tub??:jBaby Boy born December 20120 -
Morning everyone!
Many congrats to all the newbies and welcome. SS - that's fab news! 2 of them?!? Has your DH recovered from the shock yet?
I'm a bit gumped at no soft ice cream this summer either! I was told that it wasn't so much the ice cream itself as the machinery used. Apparently it's because you have no way of knowing how often the machines are cleaned and there is an increased risk of listeriosis. Hottubs are not recommended as they can increase your body temperature too far which apparently can lead to a increased risk of mc.
C4B - congrats on the wedding - shame about the cheese!
Sigh - i really wish I could go home and get back into bed!!!0
