Mothercare- I found the prices ridiculously high in mine. Some nice bits, sure, but some was a bit high- £50 for trousers?

    Hi Guys

Can i please ask a question re something i'm confused about - thanks!

I know I can't eat deli meat etc. But what about packaged ham from tesco etc? Or sandwich turkey or chicken? Just not sure what I can eat for lunch now.
    Thanks!

You can eat ham, turkey and chicken from a packet - you should only avoid cured meats such as salami and parma ham as these are not actually cooked. (although I have eaten salami and parma ham during this pregnancy!;))

Ohh I'll get in on this one Mozzy, I had practically made up the mixture for french toast yesterday then thought oh raw eggs, but is it? Confused.

Not raw eggs because you cook it lol! Obviously it starts out raw but so does everything that needs cooking :rotfl:

Nope. You're both not alone. My ability to think, reason and remember hit the dogs weeks ago...

Mozzy.. deli meat is fine.. it is just the super processed crap they sell like the salami and such that is not as it may have listeria or toxoplasmosis. The proper meats they have are fine.

There are foods you'll have to give up or cut down on during pregnancy, because they could harm your baby:

The important word there is COULD!!!! not WILL !

    Some cheeses and dairy products
    • Cheeses with a white, mouldy rind, such as brie and camembert, and blue-veined cheeses. Also steer clear of unpasteurised soft cheeses, such as those made from sheep and goat's milk. All these cheeses could contain listeria bacteria. Listeria can cause an infection called listeriosis that may harm your baby.
    • Unpasteurised milk and dairy products made with unpasteurised milk aren't safe during pregnancy. They are more likely to contain bacteria that could give you food poisoning. You're more vulnerable to food poisoning while you're pregnant.
    Eggs
    • Raw or undercooked eggs can contain salmonella bacteria. Cook eggs until the yolk and white are firm. Don't eat mousse, ice cream and fresh mayonnaise from delis or restaurants as these may contain raw egg. However, salad dressings that you buy in supermarkets, such as mayonnaise, are usually made using pasteurised egg, so are safe to eat. Eggs with red lions are from vaccinated flocks to the eggs will not be infected so are fine to eat!
    Meat
    • Liver isn't safe to eat during pregnancy. However, all other fresh meats are fine. Just make sure you cook meat thoroughly until there are no pink bits in the centre and the juices run clear. Be extra careful when cooking meat on a barbecue, or as part of a microwavable ready meal.
    • It's best not to eat cured meats, such as parma ham and salami. These carry a risk of listeriosis and toxoplasmosis.
    • All pate, whether made from meat, fish or vegetables, may contain listeria bacteria, which can harm your baby.
    Fish
    • Oily fish is good for you and your baby, but it can contain environmental pollutants. So it's best to eat no more than two portions of oily fish a week.
    • Don't eat any shark, swordfish and marlin. These fish contain unsafe levels of naturally occurring mercury. Tuna contains some mercury too, so it's best you don't eat more than four medium-sized cans, or two fresh tuna steaks per week.
    • Raw shellfish isn't safe when you're pregnant, because it can cause food poisoning.
    Drinks
    • It's best not to have more than 200mg of caffeine a day. That’s two cups of instant coffee, two mugs of tea or five cans of cola a day. Drinking lots of caffeine during pregnancy has been linked to miscarriage and low birth weight. You could switch to decaffeinated drinks instead.
    • Government advice is that you stop drinking alcohol during pregnancy. If you want to drink during your pregnancy, don’t drink more than one or two units of alcohol, once or twice a week, and don't get drunk.

    Hello!

I've always eaten lion eggs, and runny ones. Most of the other stuff I don't eat anyway :)

I've called the maternity unit and asked for the community mw to call me because they can't fit me in at the surgery for three more weeks and I'm 11 weeks now!

PP glad you got back OK. Missed you on the parents thread this week.

    Afternoon all

Labour vibes to those in need (thinking of Madbird specifically ;))
Congrats to anybody I've missed on the birth front.

Thanks for all the advice on the doggy whiff in the carpets.

Mrs Spendalot - how sweet of you to offer your Vax :) - we have in fact got a Vax and have used the special pet shampoo to clean the carpets ourselves twice (they have also been professionally cleaned before we moved in) so guessing the pong is just going to take time to go.

OH is going to clean the carpets again this weekend (then hopefully I can persuade him to set up the cot and unpack some of the baby stuff as he hasn't wanted to cos of the smell :()

Went for my last midwife appointment this morning - all measuring well - still 50th centile and babys head now almost fully engaged - on countdown for her arrival (only 2 more weekends left) - 15 more days to wait  am trying to make the most of the piece and quiet while it lasts!

    Love to all xxxxx

I've always eaten what I want when I want it and paid no heed.. it is about being sensible I think rather than 'law'

I was as miserable as sin all weekend.. my back was crippling and I had nothing productive to add.. in fact I couldn't even be bothered coming over here until last night for 5 minutes..

anomaly scan tomorrow.. *sneer*.. I still don't want to go.

Had his stupid mother (she isn't I am just in a snit) asking 'how is the baby?'... it is a blob of snot.. how do you think it is.. it isn't like I can see in or it talks to me is it.. then she started harping on because it doesn't move and 'aren't you worried, I am?'.. no actually I couldn't give a toss 90% of the time..

Oh, I'm in a pig of a mood!.. I shall now take my 'lovely' self elsewhere until I can be civil.. I am struggling very much with that at the moment.
