Im so bored, there is only so much surfing the internet I can do day in day out! Wish I was leaving sooner but Im finishing at 35 weeks as it is (holiday to use up), my maternity leave starts when Ill be 39 weeks - Im hoping the little one isn't late though - any time after the 22nd of July is ideal for her to arrive (if only it were that simple :rotfl:)

I know how you feel. Im on mothercare's website everyday. I am doing my own head in, when really i should be doing work. Im starting my leave at week 38 and i'll be back to work in October. Obviously part time. Just wish I didn't have to come back but feel like its my responsibility that things run smoothly.

I'd be asking for a payrise when you go back if you have loads to catch up on because of lazy people!

Did I work it out that you are only having 8 weeks off?

I haven't had anything either but if you are only getting SMP you should be able to work it out yourself. The only reason that you wouldn't be able to get it is if you haven't been in the job long enough and in that case you'd probably be entitled to maternity allowance anyway.

This is the problem in a sense. I was told that yes I qualify for sMP with my time of employment being over 6 months but it was mentioned about my NI contributions may not have been high enough as I only work part time. Im not sure if that makes any difference but it was mentioned. So I feel like they are leaving me in a messy situation in regards to claiming MA as it will have been due to start in 2 weeks. I feel Im up a creek and may not have a paddle lol :rotfl:

Its about 12weeks. But in reality i'll probably end up quitting anyway. 2011 was supposed to be my year of finding a new job so maybe having a baby is the kick up the a$$ i need

Can you contact your local CAB for some advice on your situation at all Supermaiden? :)

Does this help? Personally I would email HR and get them to confirm something in writing for you though!

To qualify for SMP, you must have been earning on average:
    • an amount which at least equals the lower earnings limit which applies on the Saturday at the end of your qualifying week
The lower earnings limit (LEL) is the amount you have to earn before you are treated as paying National Insurance contributions. This is £102 a week if the end of your qualifying week is in the 2011-12 tax year.
If you satisfy both the continuous employment rule and the earnings rule, your employer must pay you SMP. They must pay even if your contract ends at any time after the start of the 15th week before the week your baby is due.
There are no age limits to qualify for SMP. For example, if you are under 16 and satisfy the rules you can qualify for SMP from your employer.

Just read that if they can't pay you SMP they must give you an SMP1 form explaining why and then you should be able to claim Maternity Allowance.

I think that's what Ill be doing tbh. I hate this job and although I have to work, I really don't want to come back here so am thinking of taking my full maternity leave and then trying to find something part time but which pays a decent rate.

Im planning on coming back to my current job part time , but to be honest Im not sure I can work with my new recruit. The plan was for me to come back in a different roll and she takes my job (while I get a made up one) but Im not sure thats what I want. Will see how it goes. I need to work , no way can I afford to be a SAHM but I dont need to think about it untill January

I really need to find out childcare costs. Just to make sure its worth it actually working.

I need some advice! What age is reasonable to take a child on holiday? My reason is we booked a holiday to Mexico and would return 2 weeks before im due. Travel agents have suggested i use the £450 deposit i paid to transfer to a 2012 holiday but im so unsure as to what to do.
