Just out of interest - what is it that everyone does for a job?

I'm an architect and am lucky that my main project will be mostly just digging whilst I'm on ML leaving all the fun stuff for when I get back. Just realised I've only got 9 weeks until ML starts and I've got to make sure everything is in order for the person who's taking over - he's such a drama queen and really old school so will struggle if he needs to change anything - lucky my clients aren't the changeable type. I'm also panicking a bit about finances as I'm only on SMP so it'll be a fairly big drop in our income - at least I won't be forking out for commuting and lunchtime treats.

Had a lovely evening yesterday trying to draw a self-portrait of me and bump... haven't done life drawing in ages so really enjoyed it even though I was utterly hopeless - OH came home to find me covered in charcoal dust smudges and then critiqued my efforts (he's an architect too so its in his blood) overall he loved it and wants me to do more.

... need to do work! love to all FG

Ooh exciting job! That sounds really interesting smiley!

My OH doesn't understand why we need half the stuff we have but to be fair we've been given an awful lot so have hardly had to buy anything ourselves!

Im starving and the sandwich man hasn't turned up - sob! :(
Ooh scrap that he's just coming out of lift - off to get a munch!:D

Thanks Apricot. I actually really like my job. It comes in handy with allsorts :)
I wanted my hubby to be involved with the bigger purchases - but tbh, now not so much! It just turns into a "we don't need that, yes we do" conversation. Thankfully like you, we have been given so much stuff, clothes esp, baby swinger thing and play gyms to name a few, so we have saved so much money through other peoples generosity.

I'm starving too, off to have me a bagel :)

If your baby is anything like either of my boys who in terms of character are complete polar opposites in every way imaginable you will find the majority of baby items a complete waste of time effort and money....though the staff at our local Salvation Army love me due to the amount of brand new must have highly recommended baby items that have ended up with them over the years! :o. Both swinging and gliding cribs, baby gyms, most toys, electric swings, lots of gadgets like baby blenders, slings, several supposedly fabulous pushchairs, and goodness knows what else were all a complete waste. They both hated them all! They were both obsessed by empty plastic bottles and cardboard boxes and didn't play with anything else ever! :rotfl: they both ate whatever I was eating except that when they were a bit short of teeth I would use a normal fork to mash it up a bit. :)

I am a nurse and I work in a very specialized area which I won't identify. :o. I absolutely love my job...I am seriously going to miss it when I have to resign.

Despite having been off sick for months I don't officially start my mat leave until a week on Monday coming. :rotfl:

My step-daughter. ONly child, only grand-child, and since the divorce, which was fairly amicable, has been doted on. I love her to bits- she can be a perfect angel. BUT>>>> she can be spoilt and demanding, as she sees everyone every week- both grannies, us, her mum, aunties, and as she spends so little time with any one person, no-one wants to tell her off or enforce rules.
We eat at his parents at the weekends, and that's her time with us. Maybe- as I'm hormonal- I'm making this out more than it is- but his mum lets the little one eat in the living room. She gets a separate dinner made- out of choice, has no allergies etc- and has been a bit stroppy with us a couple of times lately if we make dinner in our house if Hobbit's parents are busy. Dinner is cocktail sausages and mashed potato with lots of red sauce.
So I've laid ground rules. She's 10, practically an adult (psyching her out, she's 'practically an adult' for seemingly everything when she wants stuff!), so she can eat with us at the dinnertable, and eat the same as everyone else. I've told Hobbit my reasons- I do not want the same occuring with our child, and I'm worried that no-one seems to think- apart from Hobbit- that little one should eat vegetables. His mum has reluctantly agreed to go along with this- I know she likes treating the little one, but there's usually a small toy or gift waiting at grannies every week!
I don't want the bad eating habits to continue any longer, as I'm getting worried for little one's health in the long run... I'm not trying to be cruel to her, but I do think it's nonsense everyone treats little one differently to everyone else all the time.

I'm an engineer. The type who spend 9 hours a day doing sums on computers to make sure big things won't fall out of the sky. It tests my brain but also my patience as is hugely male dominated. I'm used to it by now but sometimes being the only female in an office of 20 men is a bit much, especially when pregnant. The bonus is they're all scared of me and my hormones so I get free reign to do as I please (eg wear leggings)

Lirin I would seriously consider that you are doing her a favour. How will she cope with the normal teenage shopping trips and cinema trips at weekends if she is unable to sit down and eat a normal meal? Lunch or dinner with friends will become a regular feature of her social life soon enough and it would be cruel for it to be let develop to the point where it would be more more of an ordeal than a pleasure for her. :o

I am just wondering are we meant to get confirmation or anything of SMP? I have had nothing from my employer apart from my maternity leave plan. Nothing to say when my SMP starts or even how much I will receive. Its making me feel a bit stressed really as I only have 2 weeks before its due to start so they are leaving me up the creek if I cant get it! Our HR team are useless though. Sigh.:(

I suppose it has it's uses. My old manager was the same with hormones and female 'issues'. He was no good with tears and if every you needed a private word you could practically see the horror in his face incase it was 'lady problems'. Bless him!

Sounds like you have your hand full at work. although I'm not sure I could handle a job with that amount of responsibility being pregnant. My attention span is shocking now as is my ability to remember small details....good job really that my job just determines whether a person is arrested and charged with fraud...no biggy
