One of the mums over on the parents thread is well clued up on such things and took great delight in correcting me when I said 'a couple of hours' she did post a link which I didn't bookmark.. and I can't remember which member it was..

    from HERE

Highlighted purple bit is the relevant bit..

THIS ARTICLE also gives good info..

In truth there doesn't appear to be any proper in depth research done but desats below 95% which were shown in the second study to be apparent by 60 minutes it really isn't worth the risk IMO and desats of less than 90% for over 20 minutes must cause some damage.

I'll go see if I can find the link from last year.. it was about this time last year I think so I might not manage it.

Hmm the articles seem pretty old, from 2006, so I'm sure car seats have moved on a lot since then. In one article they mention 'stage 1' car seats being suitable for newborns, well I'm sure those of us with car seats for our babies have group 0 or group 0+ - I have, I have the MaxiCosi CabrioFix.

In fact, on MaxiCosi's website they state:
You often hear that a baby should lie for a maximum of 2 hours in a baby car seat. Is this true?

There are many misconceptions regarding this. This is generally said and written out of concern for babies and in short it comes down to the fact that a baby car seat such as e.g. a Maxi-Cosi Citi or Maxi-Cosi Cabrio(Fix) should not be used excessively.Children should not lie in a fixed position for too long unnecessarily. They should have the opportunity to develop their motor skills and their arm, back and neck muscles. As the manufacturer of the main car seat for babies in Europe, the Maxi-Cosi, we have been writing this for many years in our user instructions.Do not put a baby in a car seat for the whole day for convenience, but give him/her the opportunity to develop. This also applies to baby carriers and all other products in which a baby sits, hangs or lies in a fixed position. However, if you have to make a longer car journey or travel on holiday once in a while, this is no problem at all.We recommend thatyou stop every 2 hours. After all, a baby has to eat and be changed regularly anyway.

Which makes perfect sense as you would indeed need to stop every two hours anyway at least to either change, feed or soothe.

A lot of articles written are designed for scare mongering and getting our already paranoid brains in a tizz. Common sense would dictate to not keep bubs in a car seat for longer than necessary, however modern day seats are designed specifically for newborns and I feel it's fine to keep them in them for a little while for convenience.

Hope things get moving soon Keith!

So glad you said that! Couldn't sleep last night for car seat paranoia! DH has been away all week, home tonight so hopefully he'll talk some sense into me!

Hope things move along for you and your wife Keith :D

Keith Good luck - hopefully you will be having daddy cuddles shortly!

Ooh it is very exciting on here at the moment - lots of ladies due to pop shortly! We need some more people to join the list though as there don't seem to be many ladies due after me!

:rotfl:@ Teenie's DH nesting - sounds like I need to get my OH on that.

Had my first really emotional moment last night - full on sobbing for over an hour because OH didn't drink a cup of tea that I made him :o
Possibly a little overdramatic but oh well!:rotfl:

    Good morning everybody. :D

Apricot this is one time in your life that you get to be a bit overemotional and dramatic. :) I am sure he understood.

I have never managed to get my OH in the nesting frame of mind to the point where when our little boy was born and we had been discharged from hospital I had to dismantle his crib and rebuild it properly 3 days after c section! :rotfl: I don't think he is unique in that respect by any means though. :)
  • Morning All!

Good luck to Keith - how exciting :)

Sparkle - My appetite has come back with vengence! Lost it until about 18 weeks, and now try and stop me eating!! I was worried at first that i wasn't putting on enough weight, but i think I've put on about 3kg now. mmmmm Muller Yoghurts- and bonus that they seem to be on cheap everywhere at the mo!

Apricot - Loving the emotions! I cried for the first time ever at a Friends episode last night (one that I'd seen a good 30 times before!! However this is the same woman that cried like a baby at Loose women when I was about 9 weeks. Wasn't even sad!! It was the christmas show where they sang that Girls Aloud song again. pmsl!

Thanks for all the talk around car seats - at least i know now that i dont really need one for now :)

Lots of eviction vibes to ladies and bumps who want them :)
:heart2: Mummy to one gorgeous little girl :heart2:

Awwwwww honey LOL that is quite sweet actually, the things we cry at eh. I haven't been too bad this time but with DD I was terrible getting so upset at the slightest silly things (soaps mostly!!:o)

No I think it is probably my dh that is unique, he was the one that packed my hospital bag with DD and this time I came home to the crib built one weekend, the majority of baby stuff washed another weekend, the changing station all set up and I haven't got a clue what he has done with all the nappes, wipes etc!! eventually this time we packed my bag together as he kept going on and on about it!:D

Wow - good luck Keith - live updates from the hospital - how exciting!

Good luck to all the other boldies!

All this talk of car seats - I don't recall much publicised research on it when I had my babies - my first travel system (a large Britax thing) had an attachable car seat and sometimes DS used to nod off in it - I didn't drive myself at the time so didn't use the car seat excessively but I may have left DS in it for longer than recommended at times.
Lucky he escaped without any harm I guess.

I am feeling quite hormonal too - very up and down at the moment - missing the kids as they are not due back until tomorrow evening.
I spoke to DD on the phone last night and they are not missing me - tells me she doesn't want to come back :D lol! at least they are enjoying themselves :o

Looking forward to a week off work next week for half term and easter :j

You are a very lucky lady Teenie. :D. My DH is amazing too in many respects it is just that no matter how many lists I write he just does not seem to get what needs to be done for the arrival of a new baby. Still he is due home very soon and I can only hope for 3rd time lucky. :D :rotfl:
