  • I'm not sure where I heard this (I may have even dreamt it) has anyone else heard that regularly DTD throughout pregnancy can make labour 'easier/quicker' (easier said very tongue and cheek!!)

P.S - this is not something my DH has tried to convince me is true!!

lol! :rotfl: - opposite view point here - we've been told not to DTD due to low lying placenta spotted at 20 week scan.

Also had bleeding after DTD at 13 weeks - that seems like a long time ago now :o

Having another scan in 3 weeks to see if placenta has moved out of the way ;)

I wouldn't believe ANYTHING written by a company that's main aim is to make money from selling car seats.. they will tell you anything to get you to buy their product.

No in fact car seats while becoming safer in the event of an accident have actually got more upright so actually more unsafe over extended periods.. babies haven't changed they still desat.. a mum over on another thread had to ge a special seat for her granddaugher to come home from hospital as she had massive desats as soon as she was in the car seat. Most research used for psycho analysis is based on research done in the early 1900's.. it doesn't make it less valid information the fact it is a couple of years old.. the fact further research has not been done is appalling, it shows how much control these companies have on marketting and research... not that is isn't worth doing but that some people have the money to fund it not happening! It definitely wouldn't be done in the UK either because over here there is very little value put on the life of a child.

stage 0 are the stage 1 seats, they were recategorised because 0 sounds more newbornish.

Personally, as someone whose children are prone to apnoea attacs and some have been quite premature I wouldn't want to take the risk.. The seats look incredibly uncomfortable even with my 8 month old whopper in them so I wouldn't use them for very long either. I hate seeing them dragged down the street with their little heads wobbling al over because the parents are too lazy to take them out and put them in a pushchair or just carry them.

I think travel systems style things shouldn't be allowed, there simpy shouldn' be the option of trotting round town for hours and hours with a tiny baby screwed up in a car seat..

The quote from MaxiCosi was not just talking about their car seats, although they are a leading manufacturer so this must count for something. They were talking about car seats in general. I do not feel it was particularly biased towards their products.

No one is suggesting that they keep a baby in the car seat for longer than necessary, but I do think that 30/45 minute breaks are ridiculous and I do not see how they are beneficial to the child. I can see a baby getting upset at being woken so regularly, this in turn upsets the parents. If they are asleep, let them sleep.
Newborns need feeding or changing every two or so hours anyway, so they'd be taken out of the seat then anyway.

Of course closer attention needs to be paid to premature babies, but again this is just common sense, isn't it?

I cannot speak for others, but personally I will only be using my car seat on my buggy for short trips around the supermarket if he has fallen asleep on the way, or a short stop to a shop or something. Otherwise he will only be in the car seat in the car, the longish journey being about 2 hours to see my mum. He will then go in his carrycot or be held unless we go out somewhere else. He will have frequent breaks from the car seat, that's for sure.

That's why I need everybody else to test out eviction techniques - don't want to have to DTD unless absolutely necessary :rotfl:
