  • Hi all,

Firstly I think there are hugs due all round :grouphug: I've loads to catch up on and confess to skim reading!

But...had round 2 of my scan, all well baby is growing perfectly and all lovely and she thinks I'm having a.........................BOY!! I was expecting that as I caught a glance of boy bits 2 weeks ago. I'll try scan my pics in over the weekend.

  • GFH I was going to have a tee made up with 'hands off the bump the mother is hormonal' printed on it but never got around to it lmao

    Good idea!
Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x

  • I had to threaten to punch (in a jokey way of course) the one woman who DARED to touch the bump. Clearly she can't read faces or body language.

I had a 'hit and run' bump rub from a colleague last week, she just said hello, pounced, rubbed and was gone all in about 20 seconds  wasn't quick enough to get any words out or to give her a whack :D

Thanks Giz, I'm not sure I like the idea of hanging round in the pool afterwards - you never know what may be lurking in there :o

The pethidine is an interesting one. When she told us I was like 'WHAT?' I still wonder if it is right. I've googled and everything says it isn't allowed, maybe our hosp is different?

Good to hear you survived on just g+a tho. Are you hard as nails or was it actually ok :p? I'm convinced i'm going to have waddle out and get on the bed for an epidural.

Congrats again on your little bundle - cannot wait to read your birth story, time to change your sig too :D

I reckon I have a higher pain threshold than I ever thought. But also I think a lot of it was my belief in myself that nature would take it's course and do what it needed to do. I didn't have a birth plan at all. I went to hospital with the full understanding that I may change my mind and ask for an epidural. I never once wished for it though, although there were moments where I felt that I couldn't do it anymore - but that side of it was from the pure exhaustion as opposed to the pain.

I read the Hypnobirthing book and I think that helped me. I didn't actually practice any hypnobirthing techniques, but during the labour I really focused on the breathing (through the nose), and kept thinking to myself the positives that the book brought up - like the fact that every contraction gone would never have to repeated again and would bring you one step closer.

Having vaginismus I've had a huge fear of giving birth and if I can do it, anyone can :)

Hi ladies, nice to see all the births recently and to see everyone (mostly) doing well, apart from all the SPD which has my sympathies having been a sufferer before.

I have 4 days to go til due date, saw MW yesterday and baby has turned back to back so she said this will possibly create a longer and more painful labour boooo. DS turned back to back while I was in labour last time and got stuck resulting in a CS. The annoying thing is I spend most of the day and all evening in the positions recommended for keeping baby the right way round (just because they are more comfy for me), and it has still turned. But it moves around so much that I think it turns back and forth every couple of days to be honest, so fingers crossed it goes back and stays there.

Had a second counselling session yesterday and now am all straight in my mind, and feeling so much happier and more relaxed. Didn't realise how bad I was until I saw how much better I felt afterwards! I have to go back after this birth to 'de-brief' and make sure I don't get birth trauma again.
It is especially hard as they live a good 2.5hrs away so they couldn't come and visit for the day they would want to stay for a few days at least.
My DH's parents and family live 2.5-3 hours away and they did day visits when DS was born. When their choice was that or staying in a hotel as we didn't want overnight visitors in the house, then they were fine with a day visit. They still do day visits now, I don't think 2.5 hours drive each way is that restrictive, unless they are bad travellers (I don't mean naughty gypsies lol, I mean bad at travelling for a few hours each way lol).
I got a pair of jogging bottoms for £4 from Asda in my normal size and also these: http://direct.asda.com/george/women-s-clothing/maternity/maternity-jogging-bottoms/GEM58517,default,pd.html
They are 2 sizes too small BUT they fit as if they were a size too big lol. Guess I have plenty room to grow, they are soo comfy thoug, loose enough on belly to not be annoying like my other trousers. They fit better than the joggers funnily enough! I also got them for £4.50 instead of £9, bargain!
Those are the ones I posted about on here earlier this week! The most amazingly comfy trousers I've had this pregnancy. I had to get 2 sizes smaller too and they're still too big. I am due next week and they are still very comfy for lounging around the house in. All pregnant ladies should get them!

Did I see that I've now got a twinny? (Waves at Titch D!)

Helloo Bellabear!! Nice to have another one on my due date (though must warn you that DS was 3 weeks early :T)

Wow - peeps been really busy on here yesterday!

on SPD - or PGP (Pelvic Girdle Pain) as it is sometimes called now according to my physio - is usually in one of the 3 joint of the pelvis - so either side of your lower back imagine an upside down triangle with the slopy bits as your pelvis \ and / The other place is the pubic bone, which is at the front in the middle.

Basically, your pelvis has to break apart to let baby out and to do this we all release a hormone called Reaxin as others have mentioned. Some of us unluckily produce a bit too much too early, so our bones are a bit wobbly earlier than expected. So can feel like sciatica, lower back pain, pubic pain or as my physio succictly put it - a pain in the butt!

To help - for all of those who have not yet had help - most positions means your pelvis is not stable and has to bear weight - sitting, standing, even lying.

The best positon is weight on your arms, tummy dangling and bottom in the air i.e. on all fours, or leaning on something like a footstool.

This was, your pelvis can relax with no pressure on it.

I also find that if you make a tower of pillows in bed and put them under your chest, you can lie forwards on the bed to read :rotfl:

At night to sleep - the key thing is to being straight lines - knee level with hip, nose to knee and knee to ankle. Do this with pillows - between your knees/ ankles, then under bump at the front and behind your back to stop you rolling over. This requires OH to help - every time I try it myself (and I quote) "what ruler have you been using for your straight lines?!?!"

Hope my rambilng helps someone! But this is the second time I've gone through it, so know how painful it can be ;)

  • What cravings are people having? I keep being asked but I have none whatsoever! I fancy turnip sometimes, like in Asda the other day walking past and was like ooo turnip but didnt buy one cos I have one in lol but I dont NEED to eat it or anything so I dont think its a craving.

What are you all using on your bumps for stretchmark prevention? Ive got this Mum to be stretch mark oil from sainsburys but find it a bit too oily lol so my sister got me some Palmers Cocoa butter which I have been using, not everyday though because I forget but just interested what others use and if it works lol.

    Hi Super

I had avocado craving with DS - literlally, avocado or guacamole on everything!! Odd.

Nothing this time though :) Except I really wanted cheese for tea last week - and I don't like it usually!

For strechmarks, I use bio-oil on my tummy and boobs (where I get them most) and palmers on my thighs. I thought I'd got away with it last time - until I'd given birth and saw the bottom of my tummy!!! The bio-oil has worked miracles though and made the ones I had already much less obvious. It is oily though, rather than a cream, so not good if you don't like that - but then, you don't need much. ;)

  • I haven't read anything for the past many many days.
I have had my lovely gorgeous baby daughter last Sunday 6th Feb.
We were finally allowed out of the hospital last night 10 days after I had gone in!
It was a real medical adventure. I will write a birth story as soon as I have caught up with 'normal' life.
Everything well worth it. I just look at her and my heart melts and I get tears to my eyes.
