Sounds good to me dustyI, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

I'm sure they're getting scarier by the episode! I first watched the Christmas highlights episode...lovely, but they seem to have got more traumatic by the episode!£2000/£9000=22.2%0 -

Good luck with your scan today Madbird and your test Apricot (sorry to hear about your pains)
We had our second Parentcraft class last night. MW put model of a baby through a model of a pelvis, talked about how it works, what happens if baby turns etc. Then at the end pulled the baby through and said 'there you go, you are now a mummy'. Cue my bursting into tears and OH looking at me like I was a mad thing:rotfl:.
Anyway, the class has left me with a few questions............can anyone help?- If I give birth in water, how do I deliver the placenta, what are the different options?
- The MW said you can have a half dose of pethadine in a water birth, first I'd heard of this, anyone any experience?
- Anyone heard of metpid, apprently can be used in a water birth, frantic googling and there's many pros and cons - anyone any experience? Is it widely available?
Hi Dusty, just been skimming to look for birth announcements...but your post caught my eye.
I delivered the placenta on dry land, although I did have a quick try in the pool before I got out. While in the pool I was asked how I wanted to deliver and I said I'd like to try a physiological third stage in the pool, but they generally advise against it (in the pool part) at my hospital because it means they can't really tell what the blood loss is like. I was in the pool for about 20 minutes after giving birth though. I got out to go on the bed and delivered the placenta within another 10 minutes. That time zoomed by though. I remember reading that a natural third stage could take anywhere between 10 mins and an hour and I thought I'd lose patience.
So basically you can do what you want. But if you want the injection then you have to get out the pool first.
Our hospital policy is NO pethidine whatsoever while in the pool, but you can have pethidine prior to the pool as long as it's worn off. Seems every hospital is different. I never needed anything other than gas and air in the pool and even then I didn;t use G&A every contraction. The water was just amazing.
Can't answer your last question.
Hope everyone is well. Birth story is in progress...I'll post on here when I've added it.Baby Giz born 6/2/110 - If I give birth in water, how do I deliver the placenta, what are the different options?

Quick post from my phone. Those with spd how did it start? I've had a niggling pain in my back for a couple of weeks now but nothing major tbh but it seems to have gotten a lot worse over the last few days especially in the nights for some reason. I just tried to get out of bed to go to the loo and it was absolute agony trying to walk. The pain is very localised though, at the base of my back on the left and the right (no pain in middle/spine). As I don't have a midwife appointment for ages I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do? I mean I'm not even carrying that much extra weight yet so can only see that it's going to get a lot worse.
Apologies for the humungous post (it feels humungous on my phone anyway)
My SPD started differently this time to last time.
My first experience with SPD came 30 weeks into pregnancy. I was walking the kids to school and just felt really heavy down below, like I needed someone to lift each leg for me to move it. By the time I was nearly home from school I literally couldn't put one foot in front of the other without intense pain between my legs. I then couldn't walk upstairs, lift my legs to get my knickers on, get in or out of the bath, and couldn't turn over in bed. I just felt like everything was loose and like my pelvis was joined by loose elastic.
This time I was diagnosed at 18 weeks, but the niggles started at 17. I thought it was sciatica at first as it started in my back and down the back of my thighs. However, when I went to bed that night I had the tell-tale pain on trying to turn round in bed, and the next morning I was struggling to go downstairs. Then I started feeling a grinding at the front of my pelvic joint. Apparently this is because it hasn't yet separated as much as it did last time, so the bones are still close enough together to grate!
If you think it is SPD, go to your GP. Don't suffer!Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

Thanks Giz, I'm not sure I like the idea of hanging round in the pool afterwards - you never know what may be lurking in there
The pethidine is an interesting one. When she told us I was like 'WHAT?' I still wonder if it is right. I've googled and everything says it isn't allowed, maybe our hosp is different?
Good to hear you survived on just g+a tho. Are you hard as nails or was it actually ok? I'm convinced i'm going to have waddle out and get on the bed for an epidural.
Congrats again on your little bundle - cannot wait to read your birth story, time to change your sig too0 -
Those who are suffering have a look here - http://pelvicgirdlepain.com/pelvic-girdle-pain.htm#symptoms
And age has nothing to do with it apparently, a lot of it is dependant on how much of the relaxin hormone you're producing. But speak to your midwife/gp as soon as you can and ask for referral to maternity physio.
 Mummy to an amazing little girl0
