Does anyone know where I'll stand with the new DLA. I'm partially sighted.... but am near blind in one eye (cannot read anything on the chart and have vision of 1/60 or less. In my other eye, I have around 6/18 with glasses/contact lenses (unsure what I am without). I also only see out of the centre of the eye and have severe reduction in visual field.
In the new rules, I believe they state 3/60 vision or more will not qualify for higher rate mobility.
Anyone know much about this?
with sight of 6/18 you won't get HRM even if you are totally blind in your other eye.0 -
I got my eye test done last week, can only read the top letter of the eye chart with one eye and cant read anything with my other eye.
Would that be enough for me to get it? have applyed anyway, not sure how they work it out.0 -
Moonbeam I was just adding to your comment to clarify in case the person you were asking had an older document than the CVI.
On an unrelated note, my BD8 from 1988 asked basically, is the patient in-bred? lol needless to say they don't put that on the forms these days."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -

I believe that would be 3/60 so should qualify but you can check by looking at the numbers on the document you sent DLA as proof of level of visual acuity (or lack there of)."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
my dear freind is blind and is on the full DLA, but the really stupid thing is that the local garage invited him to test drive a motobility car!!! i told him he should go, but make sure they have a good insurance coverlife is like a loo roll. the nearer the end you get, the faster it goes.0

Yay, my partner finally got the claim form for HRM after he rang DLA up again and some lovely lady decided she would actually put herself out and help him by contacting the relevant department on his behalf!
She was surprised that he hadn't already heard from them but thought that maybe it could be because he is going to a tribunal next week to try and get MRC and they could have been waiting for that result or because they did send this form to the wrong house number but postie knocked on the door to ask if it was my partners. Just glad it's arrived, it will make such a huge difference if they award it too him0 -

Lol, some people really don't think before they speak! Mind you, I still find myself after 7 1/2 years with my partner saying 'it's over there!' when I'm pointing at something and of course he's like 'I can't see!'.0 -

i'ne been asked several times if there is any 'inbreeding' going on in my family lol
they put it more politely though.......'are your parents cousins?.......were their parents cousins?'0 -

On my BD8 it said "Does consanguinity exist between parents? If so, what relation?" I think they used consanguinity in the hope that most people wouldn't know what it meant. The Dr though in GOSH when I was little just said outright to my Mum "Married a cousin did you?" when she stated that no she most certainly hadn't, his reply was "well that's what they do in Wales in the Valleys isn't it?" cheaky b*stard! Lol and we don't live in 'the valley's either anyway."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
