Gosh I have the same as you and no I dont qualify for the higher rate because I have 1% of my visual field left in one eye. When spoke to the DLA they said that they have strict guides on what is acceptable. I have been registered blind since 2006.
A bit fearful of when the other rules come into effect concerning other benefits when reading the info. on the RNIB site.
Seems a lot of blind people are going to be fit for work because of the new point system they are trying to bring into effect.0 -

Many people with other disabilities will also be found fit for work.0 -

They have set the target of kicking 1 in 5 claimaints of DLA.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -

Its a possiblity, but if that was the case, then they would not have said they need to introduce medical tests in order to remove the 20 percent..
If it was a simple age eligiblilty cut off, no medicals would be needed to hit the target.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

I do wonder what such an assessment would consist of for those of us with visual impairments. HRM was just "show us a copy of your CVI" basically. Are they going to give us silly tasks and see if we fail at them? Maybe an obstacle corse to see if we see or trip over the trailing cable or if we avoid or crack our head on the open high kitchen cupboard door? lol
I'm not really worried about it to be honest but am curious to see what they'll come up with."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
Does anyone know where I'll stand with the new DLA. I'm partially sighted.... but am near blind in one eye (cannot read anything on the chart and have vision of 1/60 or less. In my other eye, I have around 6/18 with glasses/contact lenses (unsure what I am without). I also only see out of the centre of the eye and have severe reduction in visual field.
In the new rules, I believe they state 3/60 vision or more will not qualify for higher rate mobility.
Anyone know much about this?0 -

Previously called a BD8 and possibly something else in between too.
Basically a document they filled out when they registered your sight and status as visually impaired/blind person."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
