No nothing is being back dated unless your evidence wasn't submitted in time for a decision to be made before April 11th. I've already had my award as the decision was made when I sent them my CVI as they asked us all to do but as the eligibility for those with severe sight impairment (their new term of choice for those registered blind) doesn't begin until April, nobody will be paid HRM for any period before this date. April the 11th (why the 11th not the 1st I don't know) is the date our awards start from."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -

Agreed, the point I was making was that the DWP already knew then in 2010 those [ the predictor ] who will qualify for the higher rate after April are those who currently qualify now for the lower rate. Identifying early, beginning last November those who can provide a certificate of Registration is of itself sufficient evidence [ CVI or BD8, or BP1 in Scotland ] to qualify for the higher rate mobility component.
My point about ' backdating ' was that if you qualify for the higher rate, but your mobility component was / is not increased in time for the April 2011 switchover, the higher rate should be backdated to the date of change [ as long as you were already receiving some DLA ]Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. I didn't think that you would be allowed to order a car until you actually start receiving the HRM which would be 11th April?
We have a letter confirming that from 11th April we will be moved up to HRM so could we order a car now?
Thanks0 -
Hi all,my son is 9 and has a visual acuity of 1/60 in one eye and is completely blind in his left.Do you think he'll qualify. The "people" at the disability department have been anything but helpful.Nobody contacted us i had to chase them until they eventually sent the forms out,i sent them end of jan and just received letter to say they cant make a decision and they need more info! what more do they want.I sent his bd8 form in when i applied too, sorry for waffling,emma0

They can't put the motability papwork through untill the 11th of April but the dealer (at their discretion) can order the car you want before then if you show them your award letter and the certificate type sheet that was in with it too (the one with all the writing in a big box outline). Our dealer just photocopied those and ordered the car for us which means we get the price of the advance payment before they change on the 1st of April (just in case they go up though they could come down too you never know but didn't want to risk it) and also it means the car's being built 3 weeks earlier than if we waited to the 11th. It would be down to the dealer to decide if they're happy to do that but ours had no problem with it at all."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -

The only thing I can think of is that if you have a BD8 not a CVI (the new form that replaced the BD8 but is for the same purpose) then that must mean the measurement of his sight for the BD8 was taken when he was quite a bit younger is that right? If so then it could be because of this as it is harder to get an accurate measurement of sight on a young child because it is dependent on their co-oporation with and understanding of, what is being asked of them in the test.
It might be a good idea to speak to his consultant, ring their secretary and say you need a CVI done as soon as possible because DLA won't make a decision on his BD8. His consultant ophthalmologist should be happy to give him an up to date CVI and if the measurement of his sight is still within the criteria (which if it's as you've stated then it will be) then the CVI should see you home and dry. Touch wood. :-)"Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -

Right, CVI'd in 2006 with 6/60 and 6/24 and blind spots in the 10%
Can only read top line with one eye and nothing with the other
Recent eye test says 6/18 and 6/36
I think smeone may have swapped my eyes whilst I was asleep, BUT I still can't read the top line with one eye and only the top with the other!
I believe inability to read top row is the 6/60 bit, but does top line only equate to 6/24?
Any clues/help?0
