Will do, Are you registered Blind or parially sighted?

spoke to Rnib today, they said i have to get my eyes tested again, so got an appiontment with my gp tomorrow, will see what happens from there.

I was in 1984 but spent 3 weeks trying to get CVI and no luck so went to see my specialist and he wrote me a letter stating my vision. I called DLA to check and they said that's ok.

    Just waiting now

Moonbeam, I've just seen on the Action for the Blind site that the Guest Blogger that I was writing about has been awarded HRM from April. The first person I know that has been told they are getting it.

Yeah I saw that too. I've not heard of anyone else who has got it yet either. They got my letter on 27th Jan but no news as yet.

Ok that's why you haven't heard. They are only contacting people who get LRM at the moment who has a claim for sight, anyone else can apply as from April.

You can call up once it comes into play in April and apply, I'd ask for a pack in March if I were you to get it in early :)
when you say at the moment? does that mean people on high rate mobility will be contacted also?

Why would they when the changed rules only apply to people registed blind who currently get LRM but the rules change in april to allow them to get HRM?

A family member was contacted the beginning of Jan and had it confirmed 2 weeks ago that they will get the higher rate from April. Received the forms and they have sent them back - just need to update/confirm bank details with them.

All in all it was a smooth and quick process

I sent mine off in Jan and I've called them but they said although it has arrived it hasn't been looked at yet, so I'm still waiting been weeks now.

  • Ok little update, Phoned DLA yesterday and they said they are opening mail that reached them on the 23rd Jan [yesterday], mine got to them on the 27th Jan so she said it would be done this week as goes in date order.

So if you know the date your information reached DLA regarding the rule change for sight in April 2011, then this gives you an idea.

    Hope that helps some : }

  • Hi Please can anyone halp me or give me some advice please

I am in my early thirties and have been registered blind since 1994, I basically have just light perception in my left eye and very poor vision in my right eye.
I get the low rate for both components of dla but recently got the letter about higher rate mobility
Do I qulaify as on latest eye test shows just light perception left eye and 6/30 right eye is this the same as 3/60 or better or worse

Thanks for anyones help and time on this
  • I've had a call from them but because it wasn't convenient the chap said he'd send me some stuff in the post. My sight has deteriorated since my CVI was issued so I'm hoping they can just contact my ophthalmologist and work it out from my last eye test, which was only a couple of weeks ago.
Only 3% of those registered blind in the UK have zero vision.

Are you registered? or if not have you got a letter from your specialist to write you a letter confirming your sight? you need one or the other and send to DLA asap
