Hello Jamie Carter, there comes a point in everyones life when they learn that something they once beleived to be true, is actualy false.
Some people beleive that Santa clause/Father Christmas visits them on Christas eve and brings presents under the tree.
Some beleive that the tooth fairy leaves some money for them under their pillow when their teeth fall out, and the adult teeth start to push through.
Some people beleive that private companies can issue fines and penalties, especuialy when it comes to matters of driving a vehicle and parking.

And some people believe that all laws are generic.

The fact is that I know from my work that many laws are very different when it comes to airports. And that someone with actual legal expertise should be the one giving advice here. And not a load of armchair experts on a crusade.

Really? so that is a big conclusion by you, so if we say appeal penalty charge notices, do we endorse people parking without paying?

Don't park there in the first place, it's simple!!!

Yes I most certainly do live in the real world, in this world its illegal for a private parking company to punish people, or issue fines, or issue penalties. And you are jumping to huge conclusions here, so somebody dropping off a passenger is a bomb wielding terrorist now. I think you need a reality check here, this company is only interested in money, that is it!

So why can't they drop their passengers off in the right place?

If everyone just ignored the rules (because they can't get fined anyway), then how would you know who was a terrorist in a long line of cars dropping people off?

Come on, use common sense, this isn't rocket science.

Not at all. I'm saying that people should stop giving out generic advice when the truth is that they just don't know for sure, they are just assuming.

If a lawyer who has expert knowledge in this field were to come on this thread, then people would be far safer accepting their advice. However all of these parking threads are full of armchair experts who just tell everyone "don't pay, just ignore it, it's illegal", when they don't consider that in certain circumstances they may be wrong.

The advice given here is not generic - as has been proven time and time again.

Did you miss the discussions where various lawyers have come on here and often shown their own lack of experience in the field? There are of course a couple of honourable exceptions.

So how about you stop being a fraud-loving, paranoid troll right now and produce some hard evidence that APCOA has any kind of legal authority to issue penalites or act anything other than a profit-swelling predator for any lawful authority!

When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

That advice is slightly out of date, and with different situations the advice on what to do should vary accordingly.

My local airport had a free drop off/pick up area, at one time they even encouraged people to come in and visit to use the shops.
when they started to charge for dropping off, there was sudenly an issue with people stopping to drop off outside the area, and issue that was not there before. If safety was an issue then the free drop off would be re-instated it worked by getting a ticket on entry, and validating it on exit - if you were under 30 then 20 then 15 minutes then 5 minutes there was no charge.

APCOA do not have any legal authority to issue fines or penalties on private land, and the signage put up by the likes of APCOA outside airports is a joke.

if you want to take a wander down the legal side of things, with regards to airports and so on theres currently a good discussion on going on pepipoo with regards to clamping/towing at an airport.

The advice given in this thread has been very generic. And nobody with any expertise has come up with any information that applies to airports.

How about you come up with some hard evidence that proves that the fine the OP received was illegal. After all we don't even know exactly where they parked.

It's not the same as not paying to park in an Asda car park.

Another armchair expert, who doesn't like the fact that they don't know it all.
  • Can someone tell me whether the protection of freedoms act 2012 changes the "ignore, ignore, ignore" advise please?

I got 2 tickets at Luton airport in jan.2013 and am now getting letters from Roxburghe debt collectors.

Just want to know whether I can still ignore???

Try searching the parking forum for keyword 'Freedoms' and change the default setting to 'show posts' (not show threads). Here's the forum in case you thought this random thread was it. Search this forum is top right above the threads:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

...now read some current threads, the advice is NOT to ignore but to appeal and use POPLA as you will read everywhere, YOU COULD HAVE DONE THIS BUT IT'S TOO LATE NOW SO NEXT TIME MAYBE!

Here's one I made earlier but this has been discussed to death:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4360185

As long as you are in England/Wales then POPLA is what we recommend usually. Happy reading, it's already here, answered every single day on the forum.

HOWEVER if you are at debt collector stage you are in IGNORE MODE NOW. THAT IS A DIFFERENT STAGE!

CARRY ON IGNORING, FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
