If you read some of the posts on here you will see people getting tickets for a passenger jumping out of cars at red lights , this is not about safety it's about money generation only. The airport should provide free drop off points like practically every other airport does.

Also, because of the appalling airport road layout and the traffic jams that ensue, people have asked to be dropped off while in the middle of a traffic jam and then have had to walk the rest of the way to avoid missing their flight. The driver has then received a "parking charge" from the PPC even though they had been stuck in traffic. Stupid or not?
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

i realise this is not going to make me popular but the bus lane at luton airport is on the main and only roundabout at the airport so why are people stopping to drop off there in the first place!! Where else could you stop on a roundabout and drop someone off- be sensible!
As a worker at the airport it is very frustrating that people think it's ok to just stop on the roundabout, and not always in the bus lane, to drop off, get out the car, get the luggage out and then get back in a drive off, leaving a trial of cars behind them waiting to get to work or to get parked up for flights.
I know it's only 10 mins for £1 and people are saying it's not long enough but it's taking them less than 10 mins to drop off on the roundabout so why not pay the £1? Then you won't get a fine in the first place
There are plenty of signs up and i realise when it's your first time at the airport it's very confusing but how can you complain when you get fined for parking illegally on a roundabout and bus lane? The confusion also means people are not always concentrating on the car in front so, if they stop suddenly to drop off, accidents occur and this is something that is quite a regular occurance. We see it all the time and i know i'm not the only worker at the airport to feel this way about people dropping off

Hilarious post! Are you hoping for a pay rise from APCOA then?!

No-one who has posted about APCOA at Luton Airport has committed any crime and things would be much simpler if you just had a very close drop-off zone like at Gatwick. It's not rocket science and there is no need to get a third party with NO LANDOWNER RIGHTS, to issue threats like a protection racket.

You protest too much about the indefensible scam of fake PCNs - and you miss the point that no private firm can fine anyone! :rotfl:
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

As i said before if this is causing a safety issue at the airport, and you are an employee its important that you raise this issue with your line manager/boss.

Its also important to mention that apcoa have no legal authority to fine anyone, neither does any other private organisation, if the airport wants to go down the penalty/fine enforcement route the only way they could possibly do that is to have the internal roads adopted by the local authority under who real fines and penaltys can be issued that are backed up in law, and with the protection of a real independant appeals process for those who recieve real penaltys under such system.

any charge for a drop off area will make motorists try and find an alternative, even if its 20p, people will do all they can to avoid it, and if safety is the airports priority then the only valid option would be for a free drop off area, which would discourage people form using the roads.
alot of emplyers have an ideas scheme where employees can put ideas forward to management to solve a problem, or increase effecincy if i worked at that airport i would suggest the following:

Problem; people are parking/stopping in the roads to drop off/pick up creating a safety issue
solution: as APCOA can not lawfuly issue fines or penaltys the airport should introduce a free drop off area encouiraging motorists to use that instead of the road.

Newcastle and Belfast both charge £1 for 'drop-off/pick-up/10 mins'.

People park up on the approach raods [double yellows] and only go into the car park when they know the person is outside...needless to say it causes issues.

    Money-grabbing BAA etc [imo].

Does'nt it take longer to stop, find the machine, get a ticket and get back to the car than it does to just stop and go?

I dropped off my sister at terminal 1 at Heathrow earlier this month and guess what, no charge for dropping off there. The move to a £1 charge was a joke and just another example of how the airport owners just want to rip off as many people as they can.

As for Apcoa at Luton, I went there in March to leave my motorcycle in the motorcycle parking section (I was going to Ireland with my wife and mother in law by car but I was flying back into Luton). I told my wife to wait for me in the middle car park which does allow some free time and I got on the bus which takes passengers to the car park. When I got there I saw my wife having a chat with some of the Apcoa workers. She hadn't realised she was allowed to park inside for free and was waiting outside the entrance on the double yellow line section.

Now the entrance to the car park is wide and there was plenty of room so no obstruction was being caused but I got there just as the operative was telling her she would make it hard for fire engines to get in:D He was also threatening to "fine" her. Cue me:-

Me "What legislation allows you to fine people?"

Him "That sign up there does (pointing to one of their signs mounted very high up)"

Me "I said what legislation allows you to issue a fine, that's just a sign"

Him " Well, you stay where you are and see what you get in the post"

At this point I got into the car and drove off as it was clear this goon thought he could do what he liked.

Three months later and no ticket ever arrived.:D

So Luton Airport worker, if your employers were not such a money grabbing bunch and didn't charge for dropping off you wouldn't have the issue of people dropping off on the roundabout. In these economically hard times every pound counts and paying a pound for a two minute airport drop off is absurd.

ANPR and 'throw it in the chute' means not too delaying.

And anyway it's not about easing congestion it's about 'revenue generation'.
