Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tue 1st Feb. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

Morning All!!
Up early again, tiny lie in as OH didn't need to leave till six. Got a busy day ahead of me, Once i have done my hair I will take up pup out. Going for lunch AND dinner today! But on the cheap, so probably just a soup or something at the pub and then we've got a 2-4-1 offer on the dinner so should be a pretty reasonable day. Will be nice to see my friends.

Not much OS going on today as won't be here. All the clothes are washed, kitchen could do with a once round, but it's not urgent and can wait till i get home or tomorrow.

I am tired, my dog kept me up half the night for no reason from what i can see. He was just whining and staring at me!!!

Have a lovely day All

Good Morning Bramble! Another one up early here - I've been firing off emails since 4.30am! I start my tutoring again today - for three hours after school twice a week - 6 kids in all! Wasn't going to do it this year, but decided the extra money wouldn't come amiss...
Still have the second batch of marmalade to do - tomorrow I suspect. Need to try to get in some basic HW today. No washing needed tho' - half a load's definitely not economical. Not sure what the weather's like yet today - it was too dark to see when I let the dogs into the garden earlier.
Need to check on the finances too - why do I secretly hope they've improved since last time I looked??
Oh well, I think I need a cuppa to improve my mood! Hope you all have a good day today. Take care.
We cross-posted esmf73! So glad you've now been paid!

    Morning all,

Cold here, little dog still curled up in bed, dd is off on a school trip to a synagogue (sp) today,so we are away early this morning, she needs to be at school by 8.15.

Off to work today, so quick swipe round this morning, rubbish needs to go out today.

I did three loads of washing yesterday, and then the rain started, so I have it hanging round all over the house, will try and get that away tonight.

Not sure what to do for dinner,I have some chicken breast out of the freezer, might do some chinese sytle chicken with rice.

Esmf, glad you got paid xx

Tappers, hope all goes well xx

    Have good days all xx

Morning chums still dark here but dry and at the moment not too cold.Washing machine comes today ,anytime between 8.00.a.m. and 6.00.p.m. so knowing the way my luck is running this year it will probably be 5.55.p.m. I hope not as I have some books that have to go back to Uni library today.
I shall do a little bit of ironing this morning and then watch some catch up t.v. and do some knitting.HM veggie soup for lunch and it will be freezer roulette for dinner tonight.Yesterdays plans went all to pot as my sis-in-law turned up for a flying visit just before lunch, then in the afternoon my neighbours DD called around and asked me very nicely if I was doing anything,I was about to start the iroing so of course I said no:) bless her she had woken up yesterday morning not able to see out of her eye and her Mum packed her off to the opticians .He looked and said the back of her optic nerve was inflamed and wanted her to see the opthalmic specialist at Maidstone Hospital. So I took her and her Mum there but he didn't turn up until 5.00p.m. so we didn't get back home until almost 7.30.p.m. It seems she has to go back in a fortnight as he's given her some medication but is not sure whats causing the problem so she has to go back for a scan to see what's going on .Quite why it couldn't be done yesterday I'm not sure ,perhaps he wanted to see if the meds. worked first.
Maidstone is a wonderful hospital but just a pain in the rear to get to from where we live so I didn't mind helping them out as they haven't got any other transport. There good neighbours to me and I know her Mum was very worried about her DD .She is only around 17 so I could understand her worries.
So ironing was put back until today, definitely not going anywhere until my new washer is here
Hope everyone has a good day
    Cheers chums
    JackieO xx
p.s. by the way my brother phoned me from France yesterdayfor a chat and was complaining that it cost four euros.95c for a cauliflower at the weekend ,makes ours seem quite cheap by comparison, but his diesel and petrol is a lot cheaper though
  • Morning all
Very misty here this morning, the fish are fed, hubby's been dropped at the station with his pack up, no washing to do & the DW only half full.
I shall spent today planning what to do with my 10p a week payrise, the payrise I was given last Thursday, yesterday we were all asked to take a pay cut, I get to keep about 10/12p of it. I shall withdraw from the union, it cost nearly £8 a month & it is a waste of money as whenever anyone asks for help it always seems to be 'out of their remit'. Hey ho, life goes on, it's busy at work this week, our main first aider is too busy to do first aid, so the rest of us have to take up the slack.
My freezer is now fuller as I've made up the meals from my rubber beef & hubby's sarnies for the week, tonight I shall spend the evening on the baby blanket, this one is done in ripple stitch.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all

Esmf - well done for saying enough is enough, amazing how he found the money to pay you when you withdrew your services!

HH - talk about giving with one hand and taking away with the other!

Handed in my notice yesterday - boss said he would be very sad to see me go and thanked me for my time there and stuff - I had to tell him to stop being nice or I was going to cry!

DH & I are off out to the comedy club tonight so looking forward to that. Packups are done and its soething n chips for the troops tonight and i'll grab a HM ready meal out to defrost

    Enjoy your day x

    Morning all

Just light here, seems a bit misty but dry, not sure about the temperature. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock.

Dinner last night was LO's so nothing thrown away and stock made from chicken carcass, this will become soup later. Remembered to get lamb out of freezer for tonight's lamb hotpot, will do lots of veggies to accompany as not loads of meat - I'm quite happy to have veg and gravy!

Need to go to the garage this afternoon and see how much my car is going to cost to be repaired - bumped into a concrete post, have a dent and scrape on front wing - really cross with myself - was trying to do too much and was in a hurry!

Only working until lunchtime today then off until next Wednesday when only got to work until lunchtime - have some holiday to use up as we're coming to the end of our holiday year.

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

  • Morning all,
HH what a shower they are. You're so right though. We've been there - pay cut to prevent redundancies (not after a rise) and then 6 months later redundancies!
esmf glad you've been paid at last.
    Hope taplady's appointment goes well.
A very shepherd's warning morning here, so TD will have to be on today.
Didn't make bread yesterday, so that must happen today.
Making chicken tikka with rice & salad for the 5 DGCs. Adults will have the same with additions such as Saag Aloo - DH said there's lots of spinach growing in the garden. Must make up some more spice mixes.
Visitors will leave today so I shall have to do some hw;(
Lunch will be lo chicken casserole.
Hope you all have a Happy Wednesday, hugs and/or high fives as needed, Silver x

Thanks for the ideas BB and JulieGeorgiana, I will get the slow cooker out this weekend :)

JackieO - I just love reading your posts, you are such a lovely lady and your family, neighbours and friends are really lucky to have you in their lives :A

Taplady - Good Luck and yay!!! to Emsf

A strong coffee and a slice of orange bread for breakfast (am currently considering seconds...) cheese sandwich for lunch and no cooking tonight as my DD had an assessment in Food Tech yesterday so we will be eating the results tonight.

Quick whizz round here then off to work - urgh

Hope you all have good days - see you later

    Good morning to you all,

Sun is high in the sky and i had a lie in--i love term breaks and recharging my batteries. That reminds me, where is my mobile!! i never ring anyone on it because my wife is the only person i can communicate with and she is never far away! it still seems to cost me 3 quid a month to own the phone.

Today is just 2 adult lessons in the early evening but i expect they will cancel because they are parent's and will be busy but otherwise i will be laying low til later. Dw is going to school despite her bad cold because she has to try and sort out the office layout that was looking decidedly dodgy when we 'played' with it last night--she has bought desks that are too big and the place looks too crammed. My new laptop arrives at school sometime this afternoon but i have decided to keep my original PC due to having such a large desk!-i thought i was getting a smaller desk and a laptop would be more suitable!
My SD now refuses to accept it as a gift to the family from me and wants one of her own so it looks like it will be another useless purchase bought on interest free!--Her real dad promised to buy her one but he is pleading poverty now--its more like his new bride is tightening the purse strings. My SD is 13 and has the usual insecurities but they are compounded by a real father who is a piece of carp-i wish he would just disappear and stop messing her about with big words and no action--he hasnt seen her for 18months and his promises never come to fruition.-He still loves my wife and really doesnt love his new wife from what i gather so he is doubly a big jerk.-He doesnt seem to love his own daughter!

Anyway i have rattled on too much for early morning---hope you all have a lovely day---G
    mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.
