Engine Blown What to do??
Comments

The cams shafts or the pulleys aren't bent otherwise the belt would not still be in perfect alignment.
I'd look at getting fresh pulleys from a scrap engine as the old ones are likely to damage the new belt, new belt and tensioner/idler pulley as regd and of course the offending mount changed. And of course the cover, again from the scrappy.
I too think you've been fortunate, actually pretty dam lucky;);)
Should not cost a fortune at all.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Question I'd be asking now is whether engine mount is broken or if it's come loose for some reason.
It's pretty unusual for something like that to break on a car so 'young' isn't it? I've never seen one break like that and I've dealt with a lot of cars over 15-20 years old. Althought they were all Toyotas (MR2s, Celicas etc).0 -
You're comparing the build quality of 90s Japanese cars (famously over-engineered) to an 00s Peugeot built on the cheap!
Cars just aren't built to last any more.
Plus you don't know how or where it's driven. If it's going over hundreds of speed bumps and potholes every day that's going to start breaking things.0 -
I think the answers in the fact that the op said the belt was changed before she bought the car. Chaging the belt would have neccesitated removing that engine mount and supporting the sump.
Not impossible for it to have left loose, or damaged by trying to jack the engine without removing the mount. Infact I think it highly likely that that has happened.;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

 True, my friend has an old F reg MR2 with over 200k on the clock. While she's a rusty old girl the engine mounts haven't been changed in her lifetime.
Come on OP what was the verdict? Did it drop off or break off?0 -
Yep, engine mount. Allowed pulley wheels to foul one half of mount.
BUT....fix that, and you probably need to replace the pulley wheels and belt also, as it looks like the pulley's will eat belts in that condition, and if a belt breaks........pistons hitting valves?
Major engine damage (don't know the car, so not sure of potential for valve / piston collision)0 -
hello - had 3 of my mechanic freinds looks at it and its exactly what cyclone has said in his posts above. All said its pretty unusual for this to happen but when the care had some serious work previously its likely that they didnt fix it back correctly.
Car got put of a trailer yesterday and is now at the garage. I should know on Tuesday the extent of the damage but all 3 mechanics said to replace the cam pulleys and obvious engine mount. They too said it looks to have been lucky as the timing belt is in perfect condition.
Fingers crossed it'll be a few hundred and not in the thousand mark as i'd just have to sell it for spares then0 -

It should be '00s rather than '000s so not a bad result.
I expect they will anyway but make sure they change the belt even though it “looks” in perfect condition

initial thoughts from the garage are to do the below - I will know a price tomorrow:
Garage had a quick look over, and can see that the bolts holding the mount to the engine have snapped. He thinks it’s related to the last
timing belt change, maybe not secured properly when put back, as it’s unusual for them to snap for no reason. He said he knows you definitely
need:
new bolts,
2 sprockets,
cam cover, and
timing belt kit,
He’s going to strip it down first to see exactly what needs to be done. He said he needs to try and get the snapped bolts out too. The strip down will prob take an hour at least. He’ll call us with cost before doing anything. Probably be tomorrow0
