If you know someone who is claiming benefits that they shouldnt there is nothing wrong with informing the benefits agencgy

But as so often been said on this thread and many others, how do you know if someone is claiming when they shouldnt? And please dont give me 'if youre innocent youve nothing to fear' because it really isnt so clear cut as I have stated in this thread. Im still paying the price for someone's spite and jealousy and believing that what they saw told the whole story.

  • Ive been told by someone who did report someone for suspected fraud that if they wanted their case to be taken seriously it was best to give their details. As to your point, I have no idea, Im just passing on what I was told by my solicitor

Very interesting. Wonder if the OP, who is so convinced of this person's guilt, would still report him/her if she knew her own details could be made available at some point.
    I think not;)

Yes its unfortunate that people do this and while i don't agree with it, i wouldn't report someone,I support someone reporting a person if its the right reasons like blatant boasting, there's lots of different cases and people have different reasons to claim so the reason i don't report as it might not be black and white as it seems sometimes desperation makes us do silly things and its more being naive than fiddling crooks which doesn't make it right but maybe little word in ear as a deterrent rather than storming in and causing unpleasent situation if i have got the facts wrong,i do know someone who reported her brother in law he had cash in hand job for one week and i believe she did that out of out of spite rather than principal as she is that kind of person that i could turn a blind eye to claiming jobseekers while doing week or two work cash in hand but long term fraudsters i hope they get what they deserve.

I thought the quote fitted the thread.

So what would you do if you saw a neighbour walking (without any aids) 100 yards each way to the pub every night, saw him carrying heavy bags of shopping, heard him boasting that he has had a motobility car for 15 years without any checks ever having been made on his entitlement?

Would you simply consider him lucky and long may it continue?

I see the bankers, Royal Family etc are now in the debate. Why?The Government LENT money to SOME banks. All are probably going to make a future profit for the taxpayers.

The Royal family generate huge sums in tourism etc. I believe the last estimate was that they cost us 62p a YEAR each. So a Mars bar each roughly that we need to give up per year.
If he said that, I wouldn't believe him at all.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

I would only ever report someone if I was sure - such as if they were boasting about it

I would never just report someone out of spite. If I thought they were I would actually ask them

He has never had a medical. He gets forms through asking him to sign if nothing has changed with his claim. So he signs and sends it back.

Why do you think that all DLA claimants of working age are going to have to undergo a medical in the future? And it will be more on the lines of the checking entitlement that is now being carried out for ESA. It will be regular medicals. After all things change, people have operations or treatment evolves. People get better sometimes!

    @OP......

You say that the fact you dont like them has nothing to do with it but would you report someone ffrom your own family or group of friends if they were doing the same ( hypothetically speaking so answers of they wouldnt do that are not needed) not having a dig, just genuinely interested.

IMO peoples feelings of dislike towards people cloud their judgement. Whereas a blind eye "might" be turned if feeling endeared to the culprit.

Wow, just checked back in. Didn't realise would get so many responses here but shows the depth of feeling about this issue. yes, this is a good point. I honestly don't think my family would ever do this. If I found friends doing this, we probably wouldn't be friends for much longer. No matter what my feelings are towards people like this, if they are doing wrong, they are doing wrong.

Do you know what many people on here have gone through who have been pulled up wrongly? the stress and how horrible it is for someone to go through this when they have no real reason to? I've not been through it but have read on here, many, who have and how awful it's been for them.

THINK BEFORE YOU ACT, have ALL your facts and not just your dislike for someone, or mind your own and leave them to it, if their doing wrong [which maybe their not] their be found out.

I don't need to have all the facts before I shop someone in.

    I just need a suspicion.

Its not my responsibilty to gather the facts.
Its not my responsibilty to ensure a claimant is genuine.
Its not my responsibilty to ensure a claiment is not abusing the system.

Its the responsbilty of the DWP.

Someone who has claimed benefits has ASKED for state intervention.

    They have said :

I cant pay my rent/mortgage or have no/little income or have an illness that prohibits me working.

Can the state please intervene and pay this.

Benefit claiments have asked for state intervention.

They cannot complain when they start asking questions.

Your suspicion has to be reasonable though. You can't just decide someone is committing fraud on the basis that you saw then do x and y, therefore they can't be disabled or whatever.
