Hello
I want to report someone who told me they had forgotten to mention something on their application for benefit, if you catch my drift. However, if they were to draw up a list of suspects who may have dobbed them in, I am sure my name would be on it. When DWP contact people as a result of info, do they say 'we have received information' or is it more general, like 'we are conductiing a review of your claim'. Does anyone work in this field and know?
Thanks

No, the suspect is not given any clues as to the source of external information. If it is the fraud hotline, then an investigator will first corroborate the claim and gather evidence before calling in the suspect. That way the suspect sees the source of information is only from within the benefits office.
Mistakes are made, I know a of case where a persons surname (misspelt and miss pronounced) was mentioned at interview, and that was only known by one person unwittingly identfying them the source or "grass". I think a simple mistake by the interviewer.0 -

What reason do you think it is?
I assumed people reported benefit cheats because they are stealing from us. At least, that's the resaon I have reported benefit thieves.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

because I think they have been dishonest and I don't like them. The fact I don't like them does not change the fact they are dishonest. I am sick of people scrounging off the state, especially with all the cuts happening and promised.0

Did you use the word "grass" to try to pretend it is the informant who is is the wrong and not the benefit thief, for stealing from all of us?
You don't have to give your name to the benefit fraud hotline.
"If you know of anyone stealing benefits you can contact the National Benefit Fraud Hotline on 0800 854 440 . Your call is free and confidential, you do not have to give your name or address. Lines are open 7.00am - 11.00pm, 7 days a week.
Alternatively you can report a benefit thief online. "RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

And why shouldn't benefit thieves be grassed-up?. Just got to watch 'Saints and Scroungers' to see just how much money is going to the wrong people and all because they 'forgot' to mention that they worked, or that they 'owned the house they pretended to rent'.Never Knowingly Understood.

I was accused of benefit fraud - I do volunteer work and the Job Centre were fully aware of this, but someone anonymously rang the fraud line to report me. I was told that it was a female, but that was all. I have my suspicions of who it was, and if I am right, this person knows that Brownie leaders are not paid, but that everything we do is voluntary. They also know that our accounts are audited annually. It was just spite, desiggned to worry me and cause me some distress.
The Job Centre were quite happy to confirm that my volunteering did not mean that I had committed fraud0 -
I too was reported not so long ago - falsely.
They had my details on the front of the sheet, and the "Source of Allegation" on the back, so when the interviewer lifted up the paper I could read who it was. Bit of a mess up there!
It wasn't a name I recognise and the interviewer removed the sheet very fast when she realised. But a spot of googling shows that it was a neighbour I know nothing about and they know nothing about me. Have I stormed round to complain? No. Because quite frankly I don't care.0
