Ratting on benefit cheats

  • Myself and my husband were wrongly accused of benefit fraud last summer. We have only just had our housing benefit reinstated, my husband was sectioned due to the stress it caused and his recovery has been put back by several years. Many people on here were quick to shoot me down without knowing all of the facts, they already had me behind bars! We are still paying the price for someone's jealousy and will continue to do so for many years. I was in a way hoping it would go to court because then the DWP have to submit all evidence including whoever made the initial claim. I have my suspicions but know it wont do any good, it wont turn the clock back to when my husband could cope with the telephone ringing and the doorbell.
I hate benefit fraud as much as anyone, it takes money away from those of us who need it. However I despise just as much those who report suspected fraud maliciously. Just be sure of all of your facts before you report anyone because the DWP treat everyone as guilty until proven innocent and we would have had more rights had we been arrested by the police.

Your a perfect example of why people need to THINK before they ACT.

I'm sorry you've gone through this and all because someone couldn't mind their own business.
    :(
The day I had my Beautiful son is the day everything came together for me. For someone so small he done so much and made me complete.

because I think they have been dishonest and I don't like them. The fact I don't like them does not change the fact they are dishonest. I am sick of people scrounging off the state, especially with all the cuts happening and promised.
How many people do you know, who are claiming benefits, that you do like?

I was accused of benefit fraud - I do volunteer work and the Job Centre were fully aware of this, but someone anonymously rang the fraud line to report me. I was told that it was a female, but that was all. I have my suspicions of who it was, and if I am right, this person knows that Brownie leaders are not paid, but that everything we do is voluntary. They also know that our accounts are audited annually. It was just spite, desiggned to worry me and cause me some distress.

The Job Centre were quite happy to confirm that my volunteering did not mean that I had committed fraud :D
Flyboy11 gets DLA. The insane mother of a boy, who had been bullying him at school, called the DWP and accused us of claiming the allowance fraudulently. An investigation was carried out, whilst his allowance was suspended, but there was no case to answer. Because the information was provided "anonymously," they couldn't sanction the woman (the woman made no secret of what she had done). It took three months to have the benefit re-instated.

    Thanks for the link.

Have just reported the residents of SW1A 1AA. Won't hold my breath though to see if any action is taken against them :D
They've been scrounging off the taxpayers for years and nothing has been done about it. ;):D

Im not jealous i couldnt live my life looking over my shoulder but im sick of my husband and i both out working and we have 3 children to pay for their benefits:mad:
One of our neighbours was accused of falsely claiming benefits by another neighbour, the oddest thing about it was, he hasn't even been inside a JobCentre, or even filled out a form for the DWP. ;)

How can anyone be 'sanctioned' for reporting suspected benefit fraud? Sounds like nonsense to me.

I am using the word "sanctioned" in its true meaning, not the way the DWP use it.

But you've just heard that through what someone has said and already made your mind up, it's the very reason mistakes are made because people 'talk' and it gets bits added on etc.

I haven't made up my mind - I wasn't there when the person receiving benefits spoke to ManicMum. Neither were you.

I'm sure that she is capable of making a distinction between someone saying "I'm so worried - when I filled in the forms, I forgot something, etc" and somone saying "Ha, ha, aren't I clever. When I filled in the forms I "forgot" (wink, wink) to tell them about that account".

It adds a little more to a possible motive.

I don't see that it matters. If they are boasting about stealing from the taxpayers, that's enough reason to report them.
