Don't worry too much, when people think about the obese, they think about people who weight 20 or 30 stone but that's the next stage up (seriously obese). Depending on where you you are on the scale, you might find yourself in the next category down in the next couple of weeks.0 -

Thnaks - still a bit scary knowing that I have crept into that category...having a major panic now. Had no idea I was even close, i've always just been on the cusp of the bad/good BMI
I NEED to make some drastic changes!!!Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

morbidy obese
the BMI system is a crock, dont take any notice of it, you can show up obese on it and be perfectly healthy, go on how you look, feel and what % body fat you are
and dont forget, overweight people live the longest

get worried about it when your BMI is 60+ and your super super morbidly obese :cool:0 -
Hi Dory  Hi Gambit
Dory, I agree with what sgtg said... there's no time quite like the present to get started :-)
Gambit - 8lbs in a month is a good start. Are you going to be on the WW team if we do battle of the diets over the next few weeks? - have a look at Fredsnail's previous post if you want more info
lucinad - a whole box of chocs may just be responsible for your 1lb gain - although you would need to eat a whopping 700g of chocolate to put on 1lb (3500 calories=1lb) and thats a bit more than a box - more like 3/4 of a quality street tin!
Alli - whats the c25k ??alliwantistosave wrote: »So how many steps do you have to climb to manage Everest? I fancy joining you on that challenge if I may
The plan was to climb the equivalent height of Everest during March (on the real Everest, base camp to summit is a climb of 11328 feet. Whereas my "virtual everest" (house stairs) is a climb of just over 8' so it works out that to get the same total, i'd need to go up them 1330 times altogether, which spread out over the month equals about 45 times each day)
Obviously I dont know how high your stairs are but I'm sure you can work it out.
Do you want to have a race to the top??? Starting March 1st? Last one to the top is a wuss lol!
Theres a fair chance that this will be too ambitious for a lard lump like me, but if i dont try then will never know!
Sary... 24 cupcakes:eek::eek:0 -
Hay, puds and sweetcheeks:T:T Stunning achievement.
If you are at 11 st Betty, you'd need to be 5ft tall to register as obese, so only you know your measurements. I don't believe bmi is a load of rubbish - I think it can be a useful tool, but completely wrong for some people. And internal fat levels are just as improtant - you can be skinny but have too much viseral fat.
I do use it as a useful guideline. When I tipped over into 30.01(i.e. obese) it was right - I was very overweight and it kicked me in to doing something.I was shocked by the obese tag too. But we have got so used to people being bigger, we don't realise how overweight a lot of people are.
Mazza - welcome back - hope the job situation is resolved soon. And get yourself checked out Mrs.
Beanie -you don't mean cupcake, you mean raw carrot surely?:DI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
I am 5ft 2 and just about 11st
I know BMI is not accurate, I have always been sceptical cos I have a high BMI due to my muscly body type. However I have never been in the obese category and it has shocked me...
I have written out a basic food and exercise plan - I am getting to the age where I need to seriously think about my future, when to have children for instance, and the last thing I want to find out is that I spent my youth eating choc and getting fat and sabotaging my future!
I am truly shocked as I always knew I was just over the line of healthy/unhealhty and now I am past the line and hating myself for not taking better care of myself.Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....
