Thank you to all those who sent good wishes for my recovery from shingles. Kind thoughts are much appreciated.
I obviously had chicken pox as a child but it is apparently rare to get shingles more than once. I had it way back in 1982/3, the academic year when I was away from home, living in halls of residence and qualifying as a teacher of adults so that I could become a midwife teacher. I had stress, poor eating habits, my immune system probably went to hell, and I can understand why I got it then. There is no particular reason why it should have re-surfaced now. I have no stress, have good eating habits, and apart from the fact that it is commoner in people over 60, it shouldn't have happened twice!
If I hadn't had it before I don't think I would have recognised it for what it is. The first time, I thought I had suddenly got breast cancer because that was where it was the most painful. This time, it started hurting just below the right shoulder-blade at the back and then worked its way round to the front. It didn't occur to me at first what it might be, and then I remembered.
I'm beginning to feel better - at least, I'm not taking the pain-killers any more and so the constipation is gradually sorting itself out in the usual way. Weight shot back up to 73.9 kg at one stage but is now back down to 72.3 kg. I haven't much energy so it is going to take a little time until I get back to normal and can start going back to the swimming pool for lessons.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Victory --- so sorry for what you're going through at the moment. Take all the help you can get from whoever offers and treat yourself very gently.
Please don't take it the wrong way if I say that you sometimes seem to be very quick to blame yourself for anything that happens. Don't do that, don't be guilty about anything. Stuff will go wrong over the next two weeks as it always does around bereavements but it won't be your fault and you will have done the best you possibly can. Love Granny x0 -

Hi everyone,
Sorry I've not been on for a few days. Just caught up with everything.
Ive had an awful week. Haven't really slept well all week. Dexter still healing and spent the day at work with me yesterday. I had just wanted to keep him at the desk with me, but in typical giant schnauzer fashion, he had the run of the whole office. He was a real charmer with my colleagues and everyone loved him. He made a new friend with our cleaner (who by the way is afraid of large dogs!) and followed her round the whole building!!:D It was a long day for both of us but I really pleased - he did me proud!:T
I did go to bed early again as I was absolutely shattered - but I was up a couple of times during the night. I think because I'm run down and (I may have accidentally poisoned myself with my cooking:o) I woke up this morning and felt like I'd been hit with a baseball bat.
I had no option to phone in sick today.:( I've gone off food at the minute (hopefully this will be reflected in the scales tomorrow;)) I'm really struggling. Luckily DH is coming home tonight. He's been away all week and I've really missed him.
Anyway, enough of my rambling...
Good Luck for the coming week xxx0 -

moses lol what a name! I guess 6 weeks is a new record?
I think i'm still two seasons behind the one that you're watching Eric. Am resisting reading up about the new series too much because i really dont want to inadvertantly find out any major spoilers.
Biggest loser 9 is pretty good, I want mike to win, the UK version being shown at the moment is so lame by comparison0
