Eric - I was told by my physio that running on a treadmill with an incline is bad for your knees, you should keep it flat if you have knee problems (might depend on your knee problem though!)
Mandz - Sit ups = bad exercise, however, crunches are a great way of working your abs, and you need to tire out your abs to get the full benefit of 'the plank' which is mean to work your core muscles. It wont be as effective if you have not first tired your abs, as they will take some of the strain otherwise.

  • Betty - try and ignore the weight - brekkers could have added that extra 2lbs. Just focus on your running programme which sounds great!
I can't weigh in today as my scales apper to have gone doolally. I think it may be a sign that the batteries need replacing but there is no way I have lost a stone in 3 days, lol.
So I'll post a STS please Fred.

Beanie - thanks for making more room on the sofa for me and sary now you are off biking:T:T
I tend to agree with Eric and Margaret Clare's view of carbs/fat. If you think about it, bread and pastries etc are highly processed food even if home made with less rubbish in them. Our bodies didn't evolve on that sort of stuff at all. That doesn't mean I don't allow my self the very occasional indulgence, but if you are trying to shift a lot of weight and struggling it's worth looking into for yourself.

Anyone interested in getting in to luscious and tasty daily green smoothies, here a a daily "challenge" you could partake in. Many seem to find just having a daily green smoothie and not making any other dietry changes results in health loss and better digestion etc.

And they are such a fantastic & easy way of upping your veg/fruit count. I rarely eat fruit on its own now, as I don't like to eat too much because of the sugars, so use up my self imposed limit in these smoothies.
This morning, for breakfast I have had 2 handfuls of raw spinach blended with a banana, half an apple and 500ml water. Makes a pint of really tasty smoothie. Getting more raw leafy greens inside you is great for your health in particular your colon and bowels.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

sorry I should have explained, to get my HR up i either run on the flat and increase the speed to get my HR up or I walk and increased the incline to get my HR up, although I can now walk for an hour+ at 3mph on a 15% incline with my HR under 140 so I mostly run which gets my HR into the high 150s

when i started as blobosaurus i was on 1.8mph on 0% for 5mins which killed me :rotfl:i slowly increased the speed to 2.4mph and the duration to 30mins, then i started to add incline

Writing this has made me realize, as the person I am today I do not recognize the person that I was :(

before i started my HR was 140+ just walking halfway up a flight of stairs :(

I do not run on an incline, as you rightly say it drastically increases the knee loading

I was a little worried when I thought you were running on an incline, which is fine for normal kneed people (not me!).

Well done on your weight loss and exercise. You must be so motivated to have improved so much. It is a tough journey, but you seem well on your way.

    Yes, it's true.

To get an accurate weight, weigh yourself first thing in the morning, naked, after going to the loo and before eating or drinking anything.

I've taken to weighing myself last thing at night for comparison. I'm usually 1 kg more at night than in the morning.

This causes me to think: what about all the slimming clubs, WW, SW and others, that have meetings in the evening and weigh people with clothes on. At that time of day and clothed, you are inevitably going to get an inaccurate weight.

I weigh myself every Friday at the gym. Last Friday, I weighed at home, first thing, just as you've suggested above and I was under 10stones.

Did my insanity workout, drank lots of water during my exercise, had a cup of tea before hitting the gym. I was 10 stones.

Maybe I should start taking my homescales as fact and ditch the gym weigh-in as I don't get there until 9a.m (after the school run) and need a cuppa before then :rotfl:
