I am stuffed. Had half a seeded baguette with New Covent Garden Winter Vegetable soup for dinner (don't care how many calories as I enjoyed every mouthful) :rotfl:but don't think I've eaten much today tbh :D

I think it only works if you fundamentally change your habits - forever. So you aren't dieting, you change your diet. That's how I did it, I start at about 16 stone (I'm male and 5'9) and now I'm... well I have no idea what I weight (I use other tests instead) but I have a flat stomach, a square jaw and I'm fit and healthy.

Thats the brainer isnt it? Really, all I have done is swap to lower cal versions of foods and try to eat smaller portions. I cant realistically 'diet' as I have a family and feel its really important to eat together (and for time and cost reasons we eat the same meals), so if we have soup and bread for lunch, I just check Im eating the tin with the fewest calories and have one piece of bread as opposed to the 4 Id usually have :o. Snacks are my nemesis so Im trying to cut back and then (the biggie) is incorporate regular exercise into my life. I am trying to make small changes without being too strict as I know thats when things go wrong for me. We do eat out, we do eat take aways - I wont stop these treats but will opt for a bhuna as opposed to a korma, and have one poppadom instead of 4, a bar of chocolate once every 3 days as opposed to every day etc. Its been interesting looking at the calories in different foods though - I never used to look but now I realise what I could avoid or the best alternatives. I have recently beent rying to roughly tot up the amount of cals I consume in a day to see if this method is working. Im finding it hard to tell, but I think it is. These changes with exercise Im hoping is my way forward. Sorry for essay :D

It's ok about the essay - it's really easy for people to say "Well just eat three square a day and no snacks"* because many people have complex lives and stress and pressure that makes it more difficult. I'm very lucky in that there are a) only two of us to cook for and b) I work from home, so I can make our meals from scratch at lunch-time - so we miss out on a lot of added sugar and fat.

    * Which is why I don't post much on this thread as that's what I do and how much help is it to repeat that to people over and over? :-)

OMG, Matryoshka! I just noticed the time of your post... now that really is Insanity!!!:eek::eek:
That is pretty amazing, I would love to have the energy in a morning to do any form of exercise, but I'm a complete night owl so can't even contemplate a workout until at least 11am, lol.

Well I'm still climbing, although I fell behind yesterday, so I've got to do 50 extra today! Then 75 a day until the 31st. I will definitely not finish until the last day, and I'm going to try and catch up today as I don't want to get to thurs and have something silly like 200 flights to do. Will work out my totals later (and hopefully add a lot more to it!).

Lol! You are right though. Different people, diff lives, different psychologies and histories. I think this would be easier if I didnt have a family in tow. I could shop and cook just for me. My lifestyle would be different. If I didnt have a child, I wouldnt have put on the weight during the pregnancy in the first place :rotfl:Ahh the irony...

I should weigh in tomorrow but I really don't want to. I have had a disasterous week so far which I am so unhappy about as previous week I'd almost reached the next stone.

I think someone mentioned self sabotage - I think this is what I do. I have been drinking more sugary drinks this week, a consequence of giving up diet coke and not finding a substitute when I am out

Last night when I got in I was so hungry I made a cheese sandwich which contained far more cheese than I needed but I just needed to eat. It was late as well.

I still think some days I don't eat enough, but make up for it on other days. But I've stopped the chocolate, hardly every buy bread (except yesterday!) - given up the crisps but I still can't manage to lose weight for long - seem to spend the second half of every week losing what I put on the first half.

I need to break out of this cycle

Off to the gym later - will walk there and after the gym go swimming again and see if that helps today
