I wouldn't say that it is that clear: Mobile phone warranty periods - Carphone Warehouse

Apparently information on BB is incorrect and it is 12, not 24.
  • Blackberry offer 1 year, Carphone extend this to two out of goodwill (and necessity, Blackberrys are shockingly unreliable.)

I still don't get the belly aching in here. You all have choices as consumers. Either, don't purchase handsets that only have a year warranty or if you're insistent on purchasing a£500 Apple product, buy it sim free and do a sim only deal. It works out cheaper anyway. Not rocket science now is it?

Or you could stop waiting time on pointless issues and lobby Apple to extend their warranty? I agree it's poor that they only offer a one year warranty but most manufacturers, as shown above, offer two years so don't blame the networks for offering 24 month contracts, blame the manufacturer.
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)
  • Just to clarify................
The original point of this thread was not to do with the length of time a manufacturer or retailer gave but the fact that a contract can be sold where the warranty period does not cover the length of the contract. It has nothing to do with iPhone and is to do with the fact that the retailer does not usually point out that you can have a faulty phone after 14 months that you still have to pay a contract for even tho the phone cannot be used and will have a charge for repair. There have been many good points but it still remains in my eyes the responsibility of the retailer to make this point. The 3 particular stores i have had dealings with now all make a point of passing on this information.
  • The Sale of Goods Act does indeed make the retailer liable for up to six years after a purchase. But after the first six months the onus is on the customer to prove the fault was inherent at the time of purchase rather than caused by damage or wear and tear. Either way, the retailer, not the manufacturer, should be dealing with it. T-Mobile's lack of co-operation extends to its press office which has prevaricated ineffectually for two months, so I suggest you ask T-Mobile for a deadlock letter enabling you to take your complaint to the communications ombudsman.
