12 month warranty/ 24 month contract please comment if you have had a problem

You're missing the point. The networks sells you Mins,texts and data and the person who makes the phone, HTC etc are the ones responsible for the phone.0 -
The iphone does indeed (at least with 3) come with only a 12 month warrenty - on a 24 month contract - which put me off the iphone even more than i already was.
You can extend it any time in the first year, you don't need to buy the extension when you buy the phone.0 -

Get a iPhone on voda and it's 12 month warranty regardless of the contract length unless as has been said you take out apple care.0 -
Life would be so much simpler if they just done away with subsidised & free handsets, make everybody buy the handsets SIM free and take out SIM only contracts then people might stop seeing airtime agreements as instalment plans for expensive phones.0

A bit late to the conversation but I had my 23 month old iPhone 3G replaced by Apple free of charge when it broke 18 days before the iPhone 4 came out, completely messing up my plans to sell it to fund the new model.
I thought I'd try a cheeky one and phoned Apple customer services and requested a replacement, at first they said no, then I told them that under the sale of goods act items had to be fit for purpose and last a reasonable amount of time. I argued that Apple control which networks they sell to and are fully aware of length of contracts offered by the networks (this was when the iPhone was an o2 exclusive). If the maximum length of a contract is 24 months then it is reasonable to expect the phone to last longer than this.
They passed me on to someone who deals with escalated support calls, I repeated what I had told the first support rep and they agreed. They booked me in for a replacement at my local Apple store and that was it, new phone.
Don't listen to those who say the warranty is only 12 months and the phone and contract are separate and all that tosh.
Phone the manufacturers support as well as the phone network, be polite but firm, dont swear but don't take the first half a dozen no's for an answer. If the first person can't help you ask to speak to someone who can, if they say there is no-one who can take thier name and ask for their manager. Tell everyone you speak to how appauling you think it is, how loyal a customer you are and how this is effecting your opinion of their company, their products and your likelyhood of you ever purchasing something of theirs again.
Give it a go you'd be surprised how good some companies customer services are if you can just get past the first one or two blockers. That said you'll be surpised how bad some companies are, but if you don't ask you don't get.

Because it is more complicated than just warranty. SOG act (despite being very vague) cannot be overridden by anything written in the warranty document.

My point was that a newbie came along and said something which was factually incorrect, which is discussed several times a week0 -
Vodafone Business give a phone warranty for the length of the contract plus they will replace the phone within 24 hours. Well, that's what they say on the website! To be fair they did replace the first faulty handset 7months into the 24 month contract, but tried everything they could not to replace that one when it developed the same fault 8 months later! It took a letter threatening legal action before they gave in0
