To be honest, I think it's only you that can't see the difference between A 24 month contract and a 12 warranty.

Unless stated otherwise a warranty is (almost) always 12 months. Nokia, HTC and Sony offer 24 just send it off to them, job done. . .

OR get a sim only and buy a sim free phone, then you'll know how long the warranty is. . .

Ok then, i give in. but would love to note the stats of how many people are going to return to a store in the next year and not realise that a contract for a phone, laptop etc does not mean that it will work for the period of the contract. Bet it will be into the tens of thousands minimum.

Would you prefer a higher handset cost for a two year warranty? Because it wouldn't be free!

My argument is that the retailer should make it clear that the warranty does not cover the length of the contract

well you do get 24 month warranty for most of mobile phones but with manufacturer direct not with network provider/dealer

also instead of going for 24 month £30 go for 18m £40 for same allowance or even 12m £40 and pay £200 for a phone then you gonna get your 12m contract with 12 m free repair in store
  • why is no one listening. THE SUPPLIER SHOULD TELL PEOPLE THEY GET A 12 MONTH WARRANTY ONLY EVEN THO THE CONTRACT WILL STILL RUN FOR 24 MONTHS EVEN IF THE ITEM FAILS................................. then nobody can complain

Am i wrong in thinking if a contract is for 24 months then the warranty should cover the item for the full contract period?? Would value your opinion.

    Regards Bill.......

Because your first post was pretty ambiguous as to what your point was.
  • my opinion has been the same throughout the thread. I have accepted that my opinion is different to others but still maintain that if you have a contract the equipment should work throughout. I have changed the terminology to try to explain myself a little better. I asked for peoples opinions and accept they are different to mine.

Maybe i have a different opinion as i worked in electrical retail for 25 years plus and always believed in customer satisfaction, i was honest with my customers and therefore built up a very good client base. Today's retail seems more based around making money rather than customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Well why don't you use your statuary rights. Goods have to last a 'reasonable amount of time' and aslong as you were not negligent I would say a mobile phone should last at least as long as the contract was for.

Generally when people buy an iPhone, be it from a network or from Apple they usually try and sell them Apple Care which extends the warranty for an additional year, but people generally don't want to buy optional extras.

Warranty is nothing to do with your line rental agreement with your mobile operator, why should some people get a 12 month warranty, 18 month warranty, others get a 24 month warranty and what about those on PAYG?

buy yourself a decent phone and itll have a 24 month warranty, my HTC desire does, one of the reasons I chose it over others on a 24 month contract.
