were they offering you a parcelforce service?

No idea (although I doubt it, as it was a letter not a parcel I was sending). I was just quoted three different prices, for guaranteed delivery withing three different time-frames. Followed by, "or you could just send it Airmail, which should get it there within a week or so".

In this instance I took the Airmail option. In the example I gave earlier in this thread I would happily have paid the extra for guaranteed delivery. But in that case I wasn't offered the option. So the Post Office didn't get a sale.

parcelforce will carry as small as you like
Airsure® costs just £4.90 in addition to the Airmail Letter, Printed Paper or Small Packet postage price for your item. This price includes up to the value of 100 First Class stamps in compensation for loss or damage
International Signed For™ costs just £4.95 plus the Airmail or Surface Mail postage price. The exact price will depend on where the item is going (the geographic postal zone) and the type of mail item you’re sending (letters, small packets or printed papers).

as you can see.theres no RM service that comes close to £60 for a letter
so the 3rd option could only be parcelforce
I notcie you can filter PF services on the PO site.
perhaps the 1st PO doesnt offer PF services?

So, that's now three Royal Mail employees all telling me something completely different about how I can guarantee getting something abroad safely/quickly.

I have listed the only two international services that RM supply.
you can confirm that on the RM site.
however I think you need to brush up on your reading skills if I am included in those 3 employees ;)

    I am a RM employee.

Royal Mail offer no guaranteed time scale services to any destination abroad, they only have aims for different countries that vary between 3 and 10 days, this is because, as previous mentioned, everything is out of Royal Mails hands once it hits Heathrow..its all reliant on customs, flight operators and overseas postal authorities.

The service that you would have been offered because of the standards that what you want would have been, as Custardy said, a Parcelforce service which is fast tracked every step of the way and delivered by a courier, hence the expensive price.
