You seem to have launched a personal attack on me (I now sit in a corner with my head bowed) Are you the Royal mails official champion ?
You think my 3 posts that were specifically addressed to your original post (reproduced below) are a personal attack on you?
Really? Are you seriously suggesting that Royal Mail should just deliver cards/letters that are too big for normal 1st/2nd class stamps when the sender has paid too little postage just because it's Christmas?
Do you know ANYTHING about business?
Bandits?
Look up the definition, you'll find that, at least in this instance, it doesn't apply to Royal Mail.
And maybe you'll want to have a think before sending cards & letters again - otherwise your friends and family might get a little cross with you if they have to pay £1.19 for a card you've sent with insufficient postage on.Glad you're impressed with the responses - pity most of them disagree with you.
I asked if you knew anything about business because you seemed to expect Royal Mail to deliver something that you hadn't paid in full for.
It wasn't a 'snipe' - I was astonished that you could expect RM to deliver probably hundrerds of thousands of cards that had insufficient postage on.
Businesses are not charities - they expect to make a profit on the goods/services they provide.
OK, so maybe RM aren't doing so well at making profit but if they adopted your c o c k-eyed idea about delivering under-paid items as a 'goodwill gesture' they'd be in an even worse situation.
I didn't suggest you queue up to have your cards weighed & measured, all the information you need is on-line, all you need to do is buy the correct postage for the size card you are sending - or buy smaller cards:
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump2?catId=400105&mediaId=47500706&campaignid=RM_promo_PersDDN7
The fact that your family relation agrees with you has nothing to do with it.
He doesn't make the rules or set pricing policy.
FWIW, if you hadn't used terms such as 'bandits' or '!!!!!! Turpin', I think the replies you received may have had a different tone.8 x 6 is roughly 204cm x 151cm and the limit on standard letter is:
Length: 240mm max
Width: 165mm max
so either your 'ish' on your 8 x 6 is underestimated or there was something that made it too thick or too heavy.
If not too thick or too heavy, your daughter has been overcharged for postge - and in that case, I would agree with your complaint.
But I suspect that it was either too big, too heavy, too thick or a combination of all 3.
I am happy to explain any part of the above posts that you deem a 'personal attack'.
I am not Royal Mail's' official champion.
You can sit wherever you like in whatever position you choose.
When you post on a public forum you will get posters who agree with you and those who don't.
We are all entitled to state our opinions.
I'll say this again:FWIW, if you hadn't used terms such as 'bandits' or '!!!!!! Turpin', I think the replies you received may have had a different tone0 -

Not only do you have zero business sense, are obviously prone to exaggeration, are incapable of understanding a point made in a post, can't use a tape measure (or guesstimate sizes) - but you are silly too.
Just face it, letsbehonest - you cocked up and don't like the fact it's been pointed out to you.
If you STILL feel that I launched a personal attack on you - stand up and say where.
If I agree, I'll apologise.
But until then - back in the corner with head bowed.
I must say - it suits you.0 -
I wouldn't have thought it beyond the wit of man to come up with some kind of reciprocal arrangement with overseas postal services.
Obviously not as an arrangement is in place http://www.upu.int
but just for example, im guessing that this week the last thing on an Egyptian postmans mind this week will be getting a signature for an item

you think I'm misguided ? Mmmmmmmm maybe I am but that doesn't make me a bad person does it ? my original post was a personal Vent, which is what this forum is partly about, the readers judge my comments if they interest . I find your comments somewhat personal, rude and judgemental. Maybe we can meet up and arm wrestle, winner buy's the beer."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0 -

Yes, I do think you're misguided if you think privatising Royal Mail will get you a better and/or cheaper service.
That's MY opinion and I am entitled to air it, MSE is, after all, a public forum.
Please point out where I said you were a 'bad person'.
If you can do this, I will apologise.
I know your original post was a personal vent and I know this is the Praise, Vent & Warning' board.
However, when a vent is unfair or thought to be unfair, it's not unreasonable for other posters to comment on it - which is what I did.
The bottom line is, there is a maximum size for cards & letters when you use standard 1st or 2nd class stamps.
RM deemed your card to be bigger and therefore wouldn't deliver it unless the excess postage was paid.
As custardy has said, this has been in operation for a number of years.
Now tell me whose fault it is that your card wasn't delivered?
As for being somewhat personal, rude and judgemental, that is your opinion and you are entitled to voice it.
I'm still waiting for you to explain which parts of my 3 posts were a 'personal attack'.
And I'm not interested in meeting you for arm-wrestling or for any other reason.0 -
I was quite peeved to receive a request for £1.15 the other day. When I paid it, it was a letter from Solex legal services advising me that Lloyds had agreed to pay my legal fees for my new mortgage.
On the one hand, it's good news, but on the other, I'd worry about a company whose post dept is unable to send a letter with sufficient postage.
I would ask them to include the cost you had to pay for the postage and send it to you by return of post - with the correct postage on it of course!0 -

Ain't that the truth.
I went into a different post office today, about 8 miles from the one I was in the other week and was told that it's perfectly possible to send something tracked overseas. The cost was £60 for a letter, and it was guaranteed to get there within 5 days.
Who to believe? :think:0 -
