Yes, ClockworkMod's backup is a snapshot of the phones current state, you can restore back to exactly how things were if you don't get on with JJ for any reason.
You can restore the APN with the app, Android is smart so should re-download it for you... you Just need to open it and tap restore.0 -
I have had massive trouble with orange getting the £10 topup (don't ask!) to appear on my phone. As a result I have no data alllowance left now the £10 free credit has gone. I have found that wifi does not work properly when your data allowance runs out.
This means I have to pay orange for a data allowance to follow the instructions to remove the orange software/rom from my SF.
Does this sound correct or is there a way to get internet via wifi with no data allowance/credit.
I have unlocked the phone and rooted but can get no further till I get internet working again.
Any help appreciated.0 -
Hi mcmahop!
Hmm - had a similar problem getting the £10 mandatory top-up to work with the one I bought. The SIM card also seemed inactive and needed a phone call to activate. My credit is still £0.01 so I'm going to phone them to find out what's happened with my top-up money - although I'm waiting for my number port to take place so that I can get the free £30 in credit for that! (it needs a top-up to take place after the port).
However, on your WiFi issue - nope, lack of mobile data access DEFINITELY doesn't stop WiFi working. I've got an HTC Desire myself and often use it without a problem when I've got no mobile network access but just WiFi.
The only bit that might cause a problem is some of the custom Orange apps, I believe that some of these only work on the Orange data network, so wouldn't work over WiFi. However basic browsing, etc. should be fine. All the more reason to get rid of all the Orange rubbish and install a custom ROM (you also get the benefits of Android 2.2/FroYo then). If you've rooted then you'll certainly be able to manage the custom ROM.
Please post back if still no luck.0 -

There are a number of people on other forums who have done a lot of work with this phone. I hope you wont be disappointed
Thank you.

After much umming and arring, installed japanese jeyfish ROM. Went brilliantly. Battery does not last as long, but otherwise fine. Thanks to all. If in the future I wanted to put a different ROM on, would I need to follow same procedure as putting Jellyfish ROM on?
Thanks

Yes. I installed JJ but then found I should have performed the SIM unlock prior to installing the custom ROM. So I had to flash back to Orange to unlock and then re-flash to JJ. I followed the same procedure detailed http://orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/android/how-to-choose-and-install-a-rom/This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

Since installing a new ROM on my OSF, everything fine except battery needs serious charging every day. Having searched the MoDaCo forums, a number of people have had success with the method below:
Battery recal for OSF
1.Connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green, indicating the device is fully charged.
2.Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off.
3.Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green.
4.Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on.
5.Once the phone is powered completely on, power it off again and reconnect it to the charger until the notification LED is green.
6. Disconnect the phone, power it on holding the volume key button down to boot into Clockwork Recovery.
7. Now the phone has been fully charged, use Clockwork to wipe the battery stats. Then reboot for the final time.
8. Process complete.
Having only been into clockwork once, will it be obvious where 'battery stats' are, how would i wipe them when i found them and finally how do I safely boot out of clockwork. Thanks0
