    they say hard lines!
I quote consumer protection act 1987 to them!

Checked the website again earlier as I was tempted to extend my stay for 2 nights, and the Alton Towers page wasn't working.

Just checked it, and they have made a few amendments. The one ive noticed is that check-in and check-out time have been altered to 15:00 check-in and 10:00 check out. As I also believe there is now a cancellation policy of 100% - which I don't believe was there before.

So you need to check your terms and conditions before you go. My confirmation email said check out at 11:00 - and I intend to stay in the room until then!!! lol.

Beware, if you try and cancel - which I just did as this weekend is the Naturist weekend at the hotel, plus the water park is only available for half a day on Sunday. This is the response I got from Last Minute.com.

I would like to confirm that your hotel booking (Order Number XXXXXXXXX)
has been cancelled. The hotel has not charged you anything for
cancelling the booking. However, you would be charged 20.00 GBP
    administration fee by lastminute.com
Without wishing to suggest you don't have good reasons to cancel (and I'd say an undisclosed naturist event would constitute good grounds), the cancellation fee is detailed within lastminute.com's T&C's...
In the event that you would like to cancel or amend your hotel booking, it is your responsibility to notify lastminute.com verbally or in writing at least 48 hours prior to arrival date.

lastminute.com applies an administration charge fee of £20 per booking for any modifications, changes or cancellations to your reservation. This will be regardless of price of your reservation.
So if anybody's booked a night and isn't going to be turning up, it's probably best to not bother cancelling and just let the £10 get charged.

More reasonable :) Do you mind me asking where you had that from? (Might need to quote it when I'm there! :))

It is a direct quote from my confirmation letter from Alton Towers Resort and is 'unsigned' Advanced Sales Department.

It was quite a few days down the line until I received my confirmation letter. So unless your quite a few days down the line already - I wouldn't worry too much yet.
