Stayed overnight last night and just got back.
As sarahe says the fire alarm went off at 11.50pm - although my dh and 4 year old had to be woken up by me as they slept through it. Horrible going outside as it was raining - but it was a real fire in the conference room in the Alton Towers Hotel. From what we were told it was a small one and was put out quickly.
Had our cereal in the room, with milk nicely chilled in our little portable fridge, followed by yogurt.
There is a family room on floor 2 beyond the bedrooms. Has a microwave, high chairs, fridge and washer. The tumble drier was broken. There is also a huge box of Persil non-bio and Comfort if you want to do any washing with little ones.
Great to see both hotels were non-smoking, and all smoking had to be done outside.
Got two goodie bags in the room, although we only had the one child. Alton Towers bag with an inflatable drinks holder in it.
Disturbed nights sleep meant ds was grumpy so we left just after lunch.
Nothing much to eat in the water park - just sarnies at £3.25, nacho's and salads.
Water park was good, although it was very very busy. While we were queueing two people got stuck on the Master Blaster, and that was frustrating and no doubt very embarassing for them. Tip - don't go on if you are very big, and keep your bottom up all the time!
Good value and thanks for letting us know about it.:hello:0 -

We had a great time apart from the noise until 2am..somebody banging doors and giggling etc...We got dressed and ate in the bar upstairs as my son wouldn't eat any of the sandwiches by the pool...Then we went back in the pool again....Excellent value for £10 a room..would go agin for sure....Had our cereal in our room too...0 -
We stayed again on Friday night. Unfortunately this time our room was at splash landings and was a very long walk! There were no toiletries so I had to ask at reception. We spent our evening in the alton towers hotel and were there when the fire alarm went off. After chatting to a member of staff the next day she said that the alarm went off because of someone setting it off in the conference center ( there was several companies having their christmas do), she said unfortunately when the alarm goes of there it automatically sets the one off in the Splash landings hotel. She was also telling me that Coca Cola had their Christmas do at the hotel a few nights ago and one of their staff unscrewed the smoke detector in their room and it set off the fire alarms. She said that the they have a lot of people who try to smoke in their rooms by opening a window that they don't realise that the alarm will still go off.
On Saturday morning we booked out of the hotel and decided not to have the buffet style breakfast. We went to the dragon bar and had the breakfast bap for £4.95. We then went on the woodland walk. and walked all around the theme park. I hadn't been to the park since the Black Hole was the new ride! (showing my age!! But as a southener it took 4 and a half hours to get to Alton towers, so it was always a treat. Now it only takes one hour as I live in Staffordshire)
It was weird seeing the park empty, some things I recognised like the corkscrew and the tea cups! Have definately told the OH that we'll go to the park next year. Walked around for about two hours then went back to the hotel for a hot cup of tea. Enjoyed our stay but ideally would have prefered to stay in the alton towers hotel and will definately go again if the offer is back on after Christmas.0 -
If they were having work party's that's probabaly why there was lots of noise when I was there friday night...I didn't hear any alarms go off though..we were in the Alton Towers hotel..0

I have been keeping an eye open too - but if I try and book with Alton Towers Hotel directly (for the same weekend I went last year) it says that the hotel is full.
So I can only assume that they have managed to get some conference business or somethingplease listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
