ha ha yes I am sure you will spot us too..My kids are 4 and 11....I'm sure most of us will be taking our own goodies...Taking croissants and fresh juice for the room sounds like a good idea for breakfast....

    Any other recommendations for brekkie?

At the risk of sounding like an awkward customer we are not little chef fans and won't pay £11.00 pp (well maybe on our lasst morning if it smells really nice :D)
I think it's quite a good breakfast and usually buffet style as well so you can pile your plates high.
As others have mentioned you could always take your own continental style breakfast with you, you're not supposed to but if the stuff is in your luggage so it's not obvious I don't see there being a problem, we've taken a crate of red bull and bottle of vodka with us before to get us started before hitting the bar.
Also Windy Ridge Cafe as mentioned by Sal, I may have to try that one out myself sometime :)
I'm a little confused as to wether the Water Park will be free or not? How did you pre-book waterpark tickets?
Waterpark won't be free I'm afraid unless you can do a good job blagging it towards the end of the day. You can pre-book at reception on arrival or you should be able to call the hotel in advance.

TIP - dont forget to try the lifts to all floors
TIP - season ticket holders get 20 % off everything - water park tickets food drinks etc ----
Lifts in the Alton Towers Hotel are good fun :) Did you manage to get the Annual Pass discount in the hotel bars/restaurants? I always use mine in the park but it does state the offer isn't valid in the hotel outlets. (There's also a cheaper rate for Annual Pass holders for the waterpark usually as well).

When the park is open there's usually a show on based around the Flying Machine in the Alton Towers Hotel. Again I don't know what the situation will be for definite during closed season. I asked a friend there and he said it depends, but he didn't say what on. The weekend just gone was Sound of Music weekend and they had stuff on for that so there is hope!

Can you take rucksacks etc in with you? Is everyone in there in swimming costumes or can you just be in casual clothing as well?
Outdoor clothing isn't usually permitted by the poolside unless permission has been given.

Can anyone who has been confirm if the rooms have tea/coffee making facilities?
Yep there's tea & coffee facilities and usually a couple of packs of biscuits. There's a small shop in each hotel where you can buy bottled cold drinks if you want to take them back to your room. Or a small cool bag with an ice pack would probably do the job if you wanted to take your own :)

enough toiletries, towels etc for everyone. The staff fall over themselves to ensure everything is to your liking, doesn't matter how much you pay (or little).
Absolutely, last time we stayed we requested some extra towels, the guys sharing with us did the same not knowing we already had, ended up with about 30 towels in the room!

Regarding the prices going up, I imagine it's simply to do with demand, it's been popular so more rooms have been released I guess and they've figured they can sell the Friday & Saturday ones at a bit of a premium.

I'm stopping there on the 24th with some friends so will be able to report back on what the full deal at the moment, I'm having to base all this on my general knowledge and what I'm hearing from friends about what's happening.
  • Just received written confirmation which states:

"And a full buffet hot and cold breaqkfas is only £8.50 per person!"

Thats a bit more like it ;) (although we'll probably still only take them up for 1 morning - can't keep calling myself a moneysaver unless I actually am moneysaving :p )

More reasonable :) Do you mind me asking where you had that from? (Might need to quote it when I'm there! :))
  • Beware, if you try and cancel - which I just did as this weekend is the Naturist weekend at the hotel, plus the water park is only available for half a day on Sunday. This is the response I got from Last Minute.com.

I would like to confirm that your hotel booking (Order Number XXXXXXXXX)
has been cancelled. The hotel has not charged you anything for
cancelling the booking. However, you would be charged 20.00 GBP
    administration fee by lastminute.com

Wrote back told them what will happen if they charge my card!

I had my confirmation letter booking today and mine said the same thing £8.50 for breakfast....
I don't mind paying that really if it's a buffet style but will I get away with not paying for my 4 year old as I doubt he will eat much at all..:j
