Have the potty available, maybe buy her some 'big girl' pants if she likes that kind of thing, and then wait and see ...

little miss divadee was nearly 3 when she did it.

eveyone like you have had were telling me how late she was even my mum saying omg she will be starting school in nappies.

eveyone kept telling me how long it took to train them as well, but little miss divadee just was'nt ready.

then in the november (she was 3 in the december) i gave it a go, the first day it was a nightmare, she peed everywhere, but everytime she did it i put her on the toilet (she hated the potty for some reason) The next day she just took herself off to the toilet and that was it!!! 2 days noone could believe it, obviously nights took a while longer, but i didnt try that for a couple of months after day training.

now poo was different matter that took a lot of work, she had a poo nappy for about 4 weeks she would not poo on the toilet (i really dont know why!!). I would have to put a nappy on just for her to do a poo then when she had done it she would ask for it to be taken off.

i knew it was the right time for little miss divadee to go for it, and i was right. so listen to yourself not every one else!!!

All three of mine were over three my Youngest will be 4 at the end of April and she is still in night nappies, it doesn't bother me.

A lot of the people who would go on and on about how young their DD/DS was when they were trained also had to deal with "accidents" a lot in the first 6 months+ i think i've had to deal with less than 10 accidents for all my 3 combined!

You and your child will know when it's time, good luck.

funnily enough i brought a potty today !!!

My little one (20mths) is obsessed with Wee-wee but it's if i go to the toilet, he'll come in with me and pull the chain after i've been.

I've tried sitting him on the toilet on his own but he doesn't like that but he likes sitting on my lap and as soon as he hears me 'going' he shouts Wee wee.

I also know when he has pooed apart from the obvious smell if i ask him have you poo pooed he holds his nappy and says poopoo.

So i thought hmm get a potty, i gave it too him and he was well away sitting on it and saying weewee i took off his nappy so he could play with it but i don't really think he's interested.

I feel better now as i thought most babies were potty trained about 18mths i thought he was going to be 'a late one' :D
  • wow, so many parents whose kids weren't trained before 2.5 - i'm staying on this thread :T:rotfl: in my experience from all of our toddler groups, playgroup etc. it seems that hardly anyone is in nappies by 2.5.

my eldest was over 3. i tried earlier, and the nursery he went to tried too but he just didn't get it. when he finally got it it was only 3 weeks after a totally fruitless try. it just suddenly clicks.

youngest is 30 months now and seems like the only one in nappies, and with him being a summer baby there's nursery looming in 7 months so i feel a bit pressured - i don't think they can go to nursery in nappies can they? unless they have special needs perhaps.

he knows what a potty is for and is very interested in the toilet but he just doesn't feel the physical sensations needed for toilet training. he knows that when he's a bit older he will use a potty or toilet, but for the moment he wants nappies.

my husband bought him a book last week which is now his favourite. it's one of those pull-tab ones, and there's a pull-tab for pouring the potty into the toilet which actually shows a yellow stream of wee coming out of the potty into the toilet. DS loves it but everyone else thinks it's gross :rotfl:

i would take advice from the nursery really - they have seen lots of kids go through potty training and if they say she doesn't really understand what's happening then she probably doesn't. it might happen really soon hough, like i said my eldest didn't get it, then suddenly 3 weeks later he was dry day and night. he was 3 years and 17 weeks old - i don't know why i remember that :o

My son is 4 this month and still won't do poo's on the potty but wears pants and does wees in the toilet. It's as if he has a real block there....he can do it really easy with a nappy though. Getting a bit worried about it now...

when my daughter was potty trained we bought her a toilet from toyrus it made a flushing sound and played music which she thought was wonderful, we also had a star chart with monday to sunday on it. when she had a wee in her potty she got a star when she had a poo she got a disney sticker, she then can see how many time in one day she used it and what a good girl she was. and so proud of herself and showed anyone who came to the house her star chart. there was also a potty training cetrificate which came with the toilet which gave great encouragment. was dry in no time. just be patiant they wont get it write every time. and give loads of encouragment. hope this helps it worked for me

My daughter was not interested. Finally, we took the bull by the horns when she was 3 and 10 months! The first week was terrible, accidents of both kinds, everywhere. Luckily we had a lovely nanny. We talked to her a lot about the feeling she got before pooing and weeing, and suddenly something clicked. One day she was nearly right, the next day we were there, using the toilet (never did end up on a potty). She had the occasional accident after that but no more than other little girls, usually the result of being too busy. And then, a week after being day-trained, she said she didn't want a pullup at night. And that was it for night time too.

  • it's something you shouldn't get stressed about, but when it seems like EVERYONE you know is giving you advice and talking about it as if it's a major problem it's hard not to get a bit worried. my boy just is not ready. i'm sick of people at toddler groups/family/etc. telling me to use a star chart - as if he could do it really but i haven't given him enough encouragement or motivation  if they don't feel the correct sensations then they won't be able to manage it, and lots of accidents could cause bad feelings about it which might prolong the process in the long run.

some people feel compelled to point out that their child managed it at a younger age than yours - so what? i think they've forgotten how they felt when their child wasn't walking by their first birthday

i hope i'm still in this mood tomorrow morning at toddler group :rotfl:
