    Strictly, even if your old insurers do not pay out, you should inform the new insurers a claim has been made against you.

    It looks as if the other party is intent on pursuing this, so I would inform the new insurers.

    I know it's like inviting them to charge you more, but only a few weeks ago you presumably told them you had no claims or accidents in the last x number of years.

    No one's going to send you to prison for that, but it does give the new insurance company a good starting point to wriggle out of any claim you make in the future.

    Yep, if ANY insurance company is involved the details will be on the database which is accessible to all insurers.
