About as useful as most of yours, yeah.

Fact remains that you need to report an RTC within 24 hours. The only difference here is that they exchanged details, so don't need to report it to anyone.

The fact also reamins that the OP doesn't need to call her insurers.

That's the RTA (which was complied with) and to the police, this was not a recordable accident so no need. There is no 24 hour rule with insurance, unless you have made one up.

So if the other party does make a claim, what do you advise the OP to do with regards to her current insurance?

Her insurer will contact her IF the other party makes a claim. As far as she's aware the other party was happy there was no discernible damage to worry about and walked away. IF her insurer do get in touch, she can explain it then.

The other party had her details for 3 weeks, yet complained she couldn't get hold of her. Yeah, right.

How do you suggest she explains the false declaration?

What false declaration? There has been a declaration...

Jeez. I see you've chased everyone else out of the thread by being a complete tool, as usual. Nice one.

    I'm out.

You don't HAVE to claim on your insurance, you only report it if there's a claim to be made (on either side), in this case their wasn't.

You don't spill coffee on the carpet and phone your home insurance 'just to let them know'.

Well as it stands you made a false declaration to obtain your current insurance and you are no longer with you previous company, so you best get on the phone to both.

I don't understand how I have intentionally made a false declaration?

I honestly did not know that if you hit a car there was no damage and you agreed that with the other owner I had to declare it?

I am really worried now that it will affect my surrent insurance and that I may struggle to get insurance in the future?

    I really could just cry!

Nothing to worry about. You won't struggle to get insurance just because of a small claim.
  • So the best thing to do just so I have this right:-

Let her persue me via her insurers.

When they get in touch explain what happened at the scene and tell them as details were exchanged and agreed that no damage had occurred I didn't inform them as no claim was to be made.

Then explain that 3 weeks later she is pursuing this however at the time was happy to agree no damage and I am disputing her claim.

Gene's insurance must get really annoyed with constant phonecalls; "I've just curbed an alloy, I won't be making a claim I just wanted to let you know that I've had this accident".

    This:
If I was her, I wouldn't be calling anyone after 3 weeks. I'd let the other woman do all the chasing, after-all the woman she hit agreed there was no damage and "not to worry about it".

As far as you're concerned the matter is closed, it was agreed at the time there was no damage. If she wants to claim she needs to contact her insurance company and give them your details, they will contact your insurance company who will contact you - you tell them what happened on the day and they'll tell you what you need to do. They WON'T say "Well why didn't you declare the incident at the time" because they don't care about that.
